Flight 1 (15 notes)

Red
1999 Jean-Jacques Confuron Chambolle-Musigny France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
Tasting, brief note. Lots of dark fruit with dark chocolate hints. Easy to enjoy, somewhat simple, slightly rustic.
Red
1999 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru
92 points
Tasting, brief note. Great strawberry nose. Same flavors with some red cherry, a bit reticent for now but lots of concentration, followed by a very elegant finish.
Red
1999 Domaine Ponsot Clos de la Roche Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. Very challenging to assess now with lots of dark fruit and an overall brooding character that displays more structure than fruit...but at the same time, lots of density. Not in perfect balance now, but I sense lots of potential a decade+ away.
Red
1999 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Theurons Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Moderate fruit with a slightly rustic edge and firm tannins that for right now dominate the palate. Try again in 5 years.
Red
1999 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Pommard 1er Cru Les Chanlins Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Very forward and accessible with fresh red fruit aromas and spice hints. Very pleasant and enjoyable if not prototypically Pommard.
Red
1999 Domaine Robert Jayer-Gilles Nuits St. Georges Les Hauts Poirets France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges
Tasting, brief note. Very ripe and fleshy, but also slightly reductive, making it tough to enjoy today.
Red
1999 Domaine Leroy Nuits St. Georges Au Bas de Combe France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges
88 points
Tasting, brief note. Beautiful floral nose, very charming even if it seemed more Vosne and Leroy than NSG, even for this northern vineyard in NSG. Light and simpler flavors, shallow from middle to finish.
Red
1999 Maison Champy Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Beaumonts France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Moderate smoked cherry, tart cherry. Slightly tough tannins, not presenting a classic Vosne character to me today. Short finish.

Red
1999 Maison Alex Gambal Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Tasting, brief note. Earthy, meaty aromatic start with slightly reticent red fruit. Subdued flavors n palate with impressive energy and minerality, this will need at least 5 more years, probably at least 10, given what I understand about good Malconsorts' time requirements.
Red
1999 Claude Dugat Gevrey-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Tasting, brief note. Shows very black, very ripe and fleshy fruit on both nose and palate. Impressive concentration for villages level, but needs some time to soften.
Red
1999 Domaine Philippe Naddef Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
flawed
Tasting, brief note. Earthy, funky in a way that was either somewhat corked or showing way too much Brett.
Red
1999 Domaine Daniel Rion et Fils Clos Vougeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
89 points
Tasting, brief note. All red fruit with moderate intensity. Good acidity and structural support. Moderate power and finish.
Red
1999 Mongeard-Mugneret Clos Vougeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Tasting, brief note. forward and lighter styled Grand Cru that didn't really show much of 1999's quality potential. Somewhat elegant but simple and short, particularly when compared with the other two Mongeard-Mugneret Grand Crus also tried today.
Red
1999 Mongeard-Mugneret Echezeaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
90 points
Tasting, brief note. Good strawberry aromas with a bit of obtrusive new oak. Elegant and subtle flavors, but good combination of fresh fruit and spice, all nicely textured and elegant. Best on the young side for GC.
Red
1999 Mongeard-Mugneret Grands-Echezeaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru
91 points
Tasting, brief note. Bright strawberry aromas and flavors with some red cherry on palate as well. Well integrated and soft already now, this should be better in a few more years but doesn't quite have the concentration for long-term cellar worthiness.
