White - Sparkling
2004 Moët & Chandon Champagne Grand Vintage France, Champagne
92 points
Lovely balance of weight and freshness, firm Pinot Noir core, ripe yellow Chardonnay fruit, the Pinot Meunier adding an attractive touch of spice and a fluffy texture, good length. Drinking very well indeed.

White
2007 Azienda Agricola Valentini Trebbiano d'Abruzzo Italy, Abruzzi, Trebbiano d'Abruzzo
92 points
Fullish colour; fascinating, layered, intense, minerals, herbs, vinous rather than fruit-driven, floral topnote, completely natural, noticeable bitters from the skins, more about structure than about flavour, acacia honey, broad shoulders, good length. Impressive but not an easy wine to assess.
Red
2006 Elio Grasso Barolo Gavarini Chiniera Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
92 points
About as classical as Barolo gets. Relatively mature garnet; subtle and layered aromas, wood and flowers, fruit and a hint of nutty development, deep; intense and energetic, a wall of tannins buffered but not cancelled out by ripe fruit; very good length, cold tea and herbs. Drinking well now and over the next ten years.
