Introduction

This was meant to compare and contrast some wines for our young guests

Flight 1 - The Opener (1 note)

Served with home made salmon spread on asiago crostini.

Red
2008 Antica Terra Pinot Noir USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
92 points
After a 2 hour decant, this is just singing. Red cherry pie with all the spices and a little vanilla. Some dusty earth notes compliment the long finish. Tannins resolved and smooth. Now- 2016.

Flight 2 - Dinner wines (2 notes)

Filet with a wine redux with Oregonzola. The CdP was supposed to be a challenge...

Red
2008 Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon The Montelena Estate USA, California, Napa Valley, Calistoga
93 points
This was in a very sweet spot after a 3 hour decant. Cassis, blackberry, black plum tinged with mint, oak, and earth notes. Nice depth and balance. Still fairly sturdy and should go 5-7 years with little effort.

2007 Domaine Saint Préfert Châteauneuf-du-Pape Réserve Auguste Favier France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

WOTN. After a 3.5 hour decant this was open for business. Very ripe black fruit, underbrush, tar, mocha/oak, spices/pepper, leather, and a touch of iodine all wrapped in velvet. Mouth-filling without being heavy. Alcohol well hidden. Next (can't wait to try again) in 2017!

Flight 3 - Dessert (1 note)

More Oregonzola!

Red - Fortified
1997 Niepoort Porto Vintage Portugal, Douro, Porto
93 points
After a 4 hour decant it was still in need of time...better the next morning. Black fruit, fig, plum, violet, and cocoa linger nicely. Good balance and decent integration at this point. Wait 3-5 if you can, my next in 2017.

Biggest surprise? Lauren loving the CdP!
