Introduction

This was part of E&R's 15th anniversary celebration. Another wonderful line up wine, with a current value of about $5,000 for all the bottles.

Flight 1 (15 notes)

Nice saline and mineral aromas, and slightly spritzy. Soft palate and immediately you notice the pretty ripping acidity, offering rich flavors of lemon. Cutting quartz on the finish, saline, rich minerals and apple notes as well. Impressive body and depth.

Smells like tree sap. Fairly funky, like a boiled squash with green beans on top. More green beans enter the palate, which is rich, with high acidity developing. Rich and tart, with a slightly chunky texture compared to the Grand Crus. Huge acid bomb on the finish. Very tart and puckering, nearly bitter it's so cutting, but still feels very pure and integrated. Really interesting how after you swallow it's a good 10 seconds before it really begins making itself known, and then lingers for some time thereafter. Impressive and memorable.

Totally different from the previous two. This is rich, and smells like a strong soap. Very powdery. Some veggies are present on the palate, but quickly goes to quartz, minerals, and acid. Some rich soft lemon fruit, almost sweet. Quite nice. Eruption of tartness on the finish, but it's also beautifully soft with a creamy, elegant, beautiful complexion.

Very creamy aromas. Soft, like an orange julius. Some kerosene comes in too, though. Strange how strong that kerosene note is an hour later. Soft and creamy on the palate, with a pretty mellow personality. Acid is slightly burning, and it's tart, with a green streak and more slightly soapy notions. Puckering finish that lingers this way for some time, but doesn't really offer too much depth, with a slight metallic notion.

Total change of pace., This is creamy and nearly sweet on the nose. Feels very soft, with buttery acid and creamy caramel. Soft, but pretty light on the palate. Nearly hollow by comparison to the previous wines. Some saline minerality, but it's light. Light acid as well, with mellow body and more caramel. Similar finish, with acid really dialing up after 10 seconds. Rich, creamy as it lingers. Really opens up at the end and leaves the palate feeling nice. The nose on this wine is fairly boring so I wasn't expecting much, but then the palate and finish really impressively up the game.

Very stewed aromas, like pizza sauce. Crazy weird. Maybe even some pizza crust there too. This pizza note was probably reduction because at the end of the night it was gone. The palate is creamy, with smooth acidity and nice body. Very smooth and persistent. Nice mellow flavors with some lemon. The finish is quite tart, soft throughout, and lingers tartly. Highly mineral , though creamy.

Quieter aromas here, with slight notes of pollen and citric acid. Rich palate entry, notes of glue, minerals, and the powdery outside of a balloon. More minerals, tartness, and a soft texture. Huge eruption and intensity on the finish! Lovely, tart puckering, nearly bitter notes linger, but in a good way. This is tasting very young and needs more time. 90+

A little softer aromas here and more mellow. Quite creamy, with more baking powder and a slight metallic notion. Very nice entry, with softer, puckering acid. Quite nice depth here too, despite it's mellowness. Very rich and puckering on the tart finish. It's quite sharp, but there's an intense creaminess that balances nicely.

Rich, butter, and smooth aromas. Soft and luscious palate entry, with a slightly chunky body. Showing some oxidized acidic character, but not overbearing. Rich, smooth, and tart. Similar finish, with a big rich wallop of enveloping acidity. Rich and vibrant, but still slightly oxidized.

2002 Dauvissat-Camus Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Gritty green briar aromas, and some baby diaper notes with oak spice. Some reduction going on here. Palate is smooth in texture, offering rich flavors, but not too much complexity; some nuttiness, more slight diaper, but pretty shut down. Some potatoes? Weird. Nice eruption of intensity and depth on the finish. Really rich with a nice evolving depth and intensity. Really coating, creamy finish. I definitely think something odd was going on here... perhaps this just needed more air, but it felt it was better than it showed. 91?

Luscious burnt match aromas, with sweet soil and minerals. Uncooked morel mushrooms. Creamy and very nice. Palate is very creamy, with still nice sharpness and persistent depth and richness, but fairly focused and integrated. Smooth. Can hold this on the palate for quite some time and appreciate the wine. Things dial up with awesome intensity and persistence on the rich, vibrant, blossoming finish. Puckering and smooth. Gorgeous.

Wow, what a crazy change than the previous wines. Very rich, like a cooked pumpkin. Some stewed notes. There's also minerality noted too, with a slight nuttiness. The palate is stewed pumpkin meat, some intensity and vibrancy too, though. Soft, smooth acid and rich minerality. Still all with abundance of stewed fruits and veggies. Lots of vibrancy to the finish, which is tart and puckering, almost expressing tannins. This got worse as it gobbled air. A fun wine,e but not too compelling these days.

Crazy intensity on the aromas, with huge depth right off the bat. Very intense and penetrating, yet so lush and smooth. Great complexity and changing evolution every time I put my notes to the glass. It's slightly green, but really makes you think about what's going on. Slightly chunky texture, but wonderful richness and thought provoking. Mellow and soft, penetrating and smooth, though not too complex. Some nutty notes. The finish has a nice dialup of moderate acid, but not as evolving as something like the Dauvissat Clos '95.

2004 François Raveneau Chablis Grand Cru Valmur France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

Very rich and creamy on the nose. Incredibly smooth ad soft, with some egg yolk aromas. Lovely and creamy. Thee palate texture is chunky, but smooth in flavor without too much intensity. Moderate acidity. Some slight oak inflection on the finish with cutting minerals and slight tartness. Not nearly the depth I had expected.

2002 François Raveneau Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

Very rich, highly perfumed aromas that are impressively rich, but very soft in its approach. Fantastic. Very involving and penetrating palate from first entry. Much softer and more integrated than the other Raveneaus. Soft, but great richness and intensity. It's sharp in its acid, but at the same time smooth on the palate. It looks like a razor blade but it's smooth when you touch it to your face. Very impressive. Soft and intense finish, with lovely vibrancy. Intense, soft, and smooth. Very nice and lovely evolving finish and coats the mouth in its lushness. Easily the wine of the night.
