2002 Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Tasted blind. Brief notes. Maturing nose with richness and medium acid. Hints of oxidation on the finish. Everyone thought that this was older than it was and I didn't find too much Chablis typicity either. A nice wine just more advanced then it should be.

Tasted blind. Brief notes. Intense and weighty on the entry but finishes with great acid and a fresh squirt of citrus. Excellent acidity balanced the richness and intensity perfectly. This bottle seemed more youthful than a previous bottle. Drinking very well now but no rush. Outstanding.

A friend dining close by generously sent a few glasses of this over to our table for us to try. The nose is incredible...intoxicating and soaring aromas that I could have smelled all night. On the palate this was quite youthful, tight and structured. The palate is excellent but the nose is everything at this point. Needs a decade or two. Wow!

Tasted blind. Brief notes. Over the top richness and extremely oaky. Cali chard? Many people enjoyed this wine but this isn't a style of Chardonnay I enjoy.

1990 Fabien Coche-Bouillot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasted blind. Brief notes. Delicate and airy nose of saline, white flowers and fresh citrus. Loads of acidity and freshness on the palate with just a hint of development started to show on the finish. '04 Puligny? Nope, 1990! The ex-cellar provenance really showed as nobody thought this was older than 7-10 years. This could go for another decade easily. Fantastic with room to go.

Tasted blind. Brief notes. From magnum. Classic maturing Burg nose with sweeter red fruits, clove and cinnamon notes. Ripe and maturing red fruit on the palate with good acidity and length. Drinking well now especially from mag.

1991 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Ruchottes-Chambertin Clos des Ruchottes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Tasted blind. Brief notes. This was extremely tight at first but after about 30min in the glass it started to open up. Mature burg nose that one taster said reminded of Dujac. Sweet and mature red Pinot fruit on the palate with balanced acidity and resolved structure. Very elegant. At first preferred the 96 Leroy SLB but after this got some air I preferred this. Drinking perfectly well right now. A real treat.

1996 Domaine Leroy Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Narbantons France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru
Tasted blind. Brief notes. At first I thought this might be mature Cote Rotie but after some air ripe and pure red pinot fruit emerged from the glass. Like the '91 Rousseau this was served alongside, this was very elegant but with a bit more ripeness. I haven't met a Leroy I didn't like.

Tasted blind. Brief notes. On the nose this could be a really ripe example of Bordeaux but on the palate this is all new world/over ripe in style. A heavy wine on the palate that lacks definition. I preferred this to the 01 Midnight Oil but both of these are much too over the top/overripe for me.

2001 Sine Qua Non Midnight Oil USA, California, Central Coast
Tasted blind. Brief notes. Extremely ripe and concentrated on both the nose and palate with blueberry pie and other dark confected fruit. Quite boozy and warm in the mouth. To me this lacks freshness and doesn't go well with food. Having tasted a few SQNs it's obvious that these wines are definitely not for me.

1990 Château Gruaud Larose France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
Tasted blind. Brief notes. A lovely and classic left bank Bordeaux nose with cedar, red fruits and hints of funk. Quite youthful on the palate with ripe fruit and excellent structure and freshness to match. Seems like this is from a richer vintage. This is just entering it's early drinking window and should continue to develop for a decade or more. Gruaud Larose rarely seems to disappoint.

Tasted blind. Brief notes. Great Northern Rhone nose with salty meats, pepper and sweet red fruits. One taster claimed 'this must be Chave' because of that classic Chave salinity note. Very elegant for a middle-aged Hermitage with loads of finesse. This is thoroughly enjoyable right now (despite the fairly prominent structure) but has a decade or more of positive evolution. Probably my WOTN amongst some pretty good competition. A brilliant wine tonight.

Tasted blind. Brief notes. A bigger and sweeter red Burgundy profile here with red fruits and slightly warm and easy going on the palate. Seems like warmer vintage Burgundy. A nice wine but would have expected a bit more from a Bonnes Mares in this vintage.

2003 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Hommage à Jacques Perrin France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Tasted blind. Brief notes. This had a weird nose of boiled cereal and warm jammy fruit. The palate was dense and over the top with liquor-like richness and warmth. Not my style at all.
