Introduction

Every participant had to bring a wine of the theme. We did not know which wines were brought by the others. All wines were tasted blind, also without knowing when the wine you brought was poured.

Flight 1 (4 notes)

White
2007 P. Dubreuil-Fontaine Père & Fils Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Virginie Pillet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru
85 points
Fairly dark yellow. In the bouquet apples and yellow tropical fruits. On the palate firm tart lemon. Firm bitterness probably from the oak. Medium length. Overall a bit thin and not completely in balance wine. A little disappointing.
White
2005 E. Dupas Frères Pernand-Vergelesses Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses
86 points
The bouquet is a bit reticent and gives some impressions of minerals and wet stone. On the palate a mineral start, firm tart citrus like grapefruit. Also some vanilla and caramel, but not overdone oak. Ok wine.
White
2008 Deux Montille Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Sous Frétille Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru
88 points
In the bouquet crustacean and vanilla. On the palate tart lemon, tropical fruits like pineapple and a firm dose of oak. Good length. Wait until 2015+.
White
2007 Domaine Chandon de Briailles Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Ile des Vergelesses Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru
90 points
Fairly expressive bouquet with green apples an tart citrus. Good concentration, well dosed oak, tart citrus, minerals, firm amount of alcohol in the taste and some bitterness in the finish. Overall well balanced and a good length.

Flight 2 (3 notes)

White
2006 Pierre André au Château de Corton André Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
92 points
Fairly dark yellow. The bouquet is a bit reticent, but there is good complexity, mild yellow fruits and good vanilla from the oak. On the palate full bodied with luxurious oak, caramel, but also concentrated tropical fruits like pineapple. Elegant acidity. Great length. A beautiful wine. Early maturity now and no problem keeping this until 2017+
White
2005 Roux Père & Fils Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
87 points
Bouquet with minerals, ripe apples and a bit later also oxidized impressions. On the palate ripe apples as well, tart citrus, nuts and bitterness. Premox? Not really bad.
White
2003 Rapet Père et Fils Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
92 points
Mostly yellow fruits in the bouquet. On the palate the pleasant sweet start is evident, followed by pleasant soft acidity, tropical fruits, apple syrup and some good bitterness. Overall a beautiful and complex wine. Ready now, no hurry.

Flight 3 (3 notes)

Red
2009 Domaine Thenard Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Ile des Vergelesses France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru
87 points
It seems that the wine has closed a bit over the last year. The bouquet shows some cherry fruits, but is a bit reticent. On the palate juicy red cherries and some blackberries and friendly acidity, tannin and bitterness. Short finish. Overall not really complex, but enjoyable. Maybe wise to wait a few years. Until 2016+?
Red
2009 Domaine Pavelot (Jean-Marc et Hugues) Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Les Vergelesses France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru
88 points
The wine is locked at the moment. There are some cherries and red forest fruits in the bouquet. On the palate cherries, chewy and grainy tannin, some iron and white pepper. Ok acidity and bitterness and a medium length. Wait until at least 2016. 88 for now.
Red
2009 Christian Ninot et Fils Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Gravains France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru
89 points
The bouquet is a bit reticent, but there are cherries and some barnyard. On the palate a juicy start with dark cherries, some spiciness and a firm amount of acidity, tannin and drying bitterness in the finish. Not extremely complex, but definitely more than ok and it needs at least until 2017 to show itself.

Flight 4 (3 notes)

Red
2009 Domaine Jean-Jacques Girard Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Lavières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru
89 points
The bouquet offers slightly sparkling cherry flavors in the beginning followed by earthy impressions and some development. The palate is a bit dusty with also juicy red fruits, earthiness and a good concentration. Good acidity and youthful tannin and some drying bitterness. Needs a bit more time. Probably best between approx. 2016 and 2018
Red
2007 Louis Jadot Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru
88 points
Carmine red brown. The bouquet is a bit rusty and spicy. On the palate juicy red fruits like strawberries. Ok acidity and silky soft, completely melted tannin. No extremely complex but certainly a very, very pleasant easy going Burgundy. I am a bit surprised about the drinking window in CT, because, although no real hurry, this bottle was completely ready.
Red
1999 Domaine Pavelot (Jean-Marc et Hugues) Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru
91 points
Remarkably dark blood red with a slightly carmine rim. I did not make any notes about the bouquet, but on the palate it is full bodied, round and juicy with also some licorice like laurel, still firm and a bit grainy tannin. A bit drying and also still juicy. A very tasty wine with good complexity and a future of at least 5+ years.

Flight 5 (4 notes)

Red
2003 Jean-Claude Belland Corton-Clos de la Vigne au Saint France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
90 points
Beautiful and complex bouquet with minerals and red forest fruits. On the palate berries, mushrooms, coffee, beautiful acidity and soft, integrated tannin. A beautiful and complete wine and at its peak now.
Red
2002 Domaine Chandon de Briailles Corton-Bressandes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
89 points
The bouquet is very special and different, more sweet, than you would expect from a Burgundy wine. On the palate in fact the same. Remarkably much sweetness, mild acidity and soft tannin, which still shows some future, To be honest; I don't know what to think. Definitely a very pleasant wine, but tasted completely blind beside some other (and a bit cheaper) Burgundy wines it did not show much extra, but certainly something different.
Red
2001 Domaine Chandon de Briailles Corton-Maréchaudes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
89 points
Beautiful Burgundy bouquet with cherries, raspberries and some earthy impressions. On the palate juicy fruits, some earthy impressions, some spiciness and a touch of sweetness. Ok acidity and mild tannin. A pleasant and easy going wine, but not really delivering as expected/hoped for.
Red
1999 Domaine Chandon de Briailles Corton-Bressandes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
No notes about the bouquet, but on the palate the wine did not seem to be a 100% clean. Not corked, but not sure what exactly was wrong with it. I could make some notes however: Minerals, sweet and acidic candy flavors . Very special, hard to describe, and with a long finish. I understand this is not a very useful note, but it is the best I can do. The wine was not really unpleasant, but not completely clean. I don't score it, but my note might explain the big differences in scores in CT.
