White - Sparkling
2009 Colet Colet-Navazos Extra Brut Spain, Catalunya, Penedès

Nice toast and citrus nose; palate hollows out a bit. Citrus, toast, slight nuttiness on the palate. Fairly short, somewhat bitter finish.
White - Sparkling
1985 Moët & Chandon Champagne Cuvée Dom Pérignon France, Champagne

Quite mature nose (very yeasty nose; toast, ripe citrus; orange peel; baked apple) that spoke to a wine 10 years older. Still yummy, but lacking freshness. Toast, citrus peel, orange, apple, minerality, on the rich, creamy palate.
Red
1986 Château L'Arrosée France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
90 points
Very beautiful, pronounced nose of darker fruit, cedar, and pencil lead. Slightly lighter-fruited on the palate (dark cherries) with woody cedar notes. Somewhat bitter finish.
Red
1971 Sterling Vineyards Pinot Noir USA, California, Napa Valley
Dead.

1986 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Sour cherry and currant on the palate, with graphite and a bit of earth & smoke. Very silky. Some drying wood tannin in the background. Much silkier and less rich than the 1981. Very good.

What a contrast in vintages alongside the 1986. This is richer, deeper on the captivating nose; continued to improve and build with air. On the palate, savory, rich, with bitter cherry and plum fruit framed by sweet wood and cigar box. Lovely. Drinking very well now.
White
1989 Trimbach Gewurztraminer France, Alsace
Served blind, and clearly Gewurzt, but surprised by the base yellow label bottling since the nose was lively and young. Spicy lychee and honey blossom nose. Some light vegetal (in a good way) notes. Very nice nose. Full bodied. Palate was lacking concentration.
Red
1959 Château Talbot France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

What a treat! Medium tawny color still shows vibrant ruby notes. Initially, a medium-low intensity nose that continued to open over the course of the next hour. Beautiful, young, silky, complex, and so very fresh and vibrant. Still possesses plenty of red and dark fruit along with earth, tobacco, and the slightest bit of funk. A beautiful bottle.

1990 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

What a disappointment from a case that has delivered such highs, but this was (by far) the worst bottle from the case. Rather advanced on the nose, with savory/soy notes along with leather. The bit of soy on the palate as well distracted from the funky, leathery, earthy character. Nice texture and structure, but it just tasted like a wine well past its prime (which it clearly is not, judging by other bottles). What amazing bottle variation.

1993 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut France, Champagne

Beautiful! Very active, fine mousse. Very rich brioche/biscuit/toast nose. Amazing mouthfeel, creamy; brioche, cream, rich lemon, creme brulee, dough, toast on the palate, with a citrus lift. Long finish. Yum.

2001 Joh. Jos. Christoffel Erben Ürziger Würzgarten Riesling Spätlese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

Another excellent, balanced, complex, yet restrained bottle. Yummy.
