Introduction

Over the course of the night before, the day of and some remnants, the day after Thanksgiving.

Flight 1 (5 notes)

Very interesting. Quite tight. We ended up putting the cork back and will try again later today. That said, it did eventually open a bit but we were on to the reds. Light golden in color. The nose has a strong note of cinnamon, not something I really experience in this type of wine. There is also a very slight grassy note and even slighter tropical fruit note. On the palate, it is much more expressive. Excellent texture. Slightly lemony with hints of tropical fruits. Very nice depth and a long finish. It had that bottomless pit kind of thing going on which usually means it shows better in a few years (or Day 2). It was very good and worked with food just fine. 91

Better on Day 2. I changed my score to go up a point. Much more expressive on the nose and a bit larger on the palate. Stored in the fridge, there were no oxidative notes, etc.

One of my favorite value wines. Period. This is really deep and to me, seemed even better than the 2013 at this young stage. Purple in color. The nose has black cherries, slight balsamic vinegar, hints of leather and iodine. With air, some black raspberries come out and the leather gets stronger. On the palate, this is juicy with black raspberry fruit. Medium tannins. Plenty of depth. Showing a nice complexity at this point. Great finish that makes you want to take another sip. I probably underscored this. Quite an exciting wine actually.

Really in a great place right now although still plenty of years to go before peak IMO. Purple in color. Big nose with black raspberries, black pepper, some roasted/gamy meats. A bit of a violet note too. On the palate, this is big but not all fruit. Lots of black raspberries but also some pepper and leathery notes in a good way. Showing tight layers. Good finish. This was pop and pour but it needs air or time.

Wow. This was way above my expectations. This bottle just killed it. Purple in color. The nose is gorgeous. Cassis, tobacco, cedar and sandalwood. Deep. On the palate, just a great juicy texture. Very full bodied. Cassis with spices and slight cedar notes. Firm tannins still. deep and very complex. Layers explode in the glass as it unwinds. Long finish. Very food friendly. This is young and will still improve. I had to recheck to make sure this wasn't a single vineyard, but no, the regular bottling. Really well done.

Meh. I hoped for more. We ended up recorking and saving for later today in the hopes that it shows better on day 2. It can happen. It is certainly not a bad wine, but just not a lot of distinguishing notes. Very much a very good generic red wine. It was pop and pour, so let's see what some air does to it.

Showing a bit of oxidation on Day 2 (just left on the counter with a cork in it). No improvement, actually not as good. A bit of a disappointment to me. Just a light generic red wine. Probably a sign of the vintage as much as anything. Certainly a nice enough wine, but one hopes for more. I would recommend drinking these soon.
