LC13. This bottle was much better than the dumb and mute showing from last time. At first, this did still seem a bit one-dimensional, acidic, and thin, but this filled out with time. This isn't as funky as meunier ought to be, or as I remembered it being. Nice cut and sharpness here, and with time, some of the big mineral/acid frame filled out with white fruit.

Disgorged May 11, 2015, 3 g/L of dosage. The effervescence here is pretty potent; maybe a little bit too exuberant. Coarse bead, with tons of chalkiness and a nice touch of sweet white fruit. This time around, I felt the wine was almost a bit too bracing and acidic. When I revisited this, it didn't seem like it fleshed out too much.

A lovely example of CdC. The nose has some distinct white grape juice flavours, although there's nothing foxy or sweet about this wine. This is fairly ripe and full-bodied, with a moderate amount of breadiness. I love the roundness on the palate -- this feels like a very complete wine to me. Obviously this is young, but it is drinking very well.

2008 Veuve Clicquot Champagne Brut Vintage France, Champagne

This shows plenty of the white-hot acidity of 2008, but it's well-balanced against a richer profile of fruit and leesiness. There's also a good amount of citrus acidity here that adds freshness. This is a nicely rounded champagne, even if it isn't the most complex.

This didn't seem to show too acidic, and in fact, there was a nice sweetness of the fruit that I liked very much here. The profile is still towards the white fruit, but it is nicely sweet, and couples very nicely with the mineral cut.

By all accounts, baby Salon. The nose and palate showed quite strangely, and there was a persistent dill note that was really hard to understand. Not oxidized or over the hill, this was surprisingly fresh -- it tasted like good old white Burgundy with bubbles -- just a hint of mushroom, no nuttiness, and very little of those old white wine flavours. I would have enjoyed this a lot more if I could get over that weird dill tone.

This is a really densely packed rose, though it doesn't have quite as much oomph as the brilliant Ruinart rose. To be honest, if I had had this (literally) blind, it may have been difficult to pick this out as a rose at all -- this didn't seem to have as much red fruit character, either on the nose, or on the palate, though maybe there was a bit of a tannic grip on the finish? In any case, this is young and can probably benefit from a few years to integrate.

It's no champagne, but it's fairly good nonetheless. The nose shows a bit more of a sweet character, with just a slight bit of a grape juice note, but by and large, this is a fairly solid bottle of bubbly. There's a slight bit of banana here that makes me think there was a little bit of carbonic along the way, but that really doesn't make sense. Good, but I'd take Bereche Brut Reserve at this price.

N.V. H. Billiot Fils Champagne Grand Cru Brut Réserve France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

Disgorged 6/30/2016. I love the Billiot house style of the large-scaled champagnes with a touch of oxidation and full-throttle richness, and this bottle was no exception. Definitely among the densest and heaviest wines on the table tonight, this was exactly spot on with my vision of the house style. On top of all that, there's a light floral tone that gives this an extra shade of prettiness.

An excellent rose champagne, with lots of dense red fruits on the nose. The palate is crisp and minerally, with plenty of concentration and power. Not the most complex, and while impressive in most respects, this wine does lack a bit of a more distinctive character.
