Introduction

All wines tasted directly from barrel in a walk around tasting. Trip was my first time barrel tasting young burg -- take notes with a grain of salt.

Flight 1 (13 notes)

White
2016 Faiveley Meursault 1er Cru Blagny France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Barrel sample. Nice ripeness and richness to the fleshy fruit. Typical Meursault flavor profile. Should drink well young. Good.
White
2016 Faiveley Meursault 1er Cru Charmes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Barrel sample. A noticeable step-up in intensity from the Blagny. Even more plump and rich in the mouth. Great mouthfeel and balance. Should be very good in a few years.
White
2016 Faiveley Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Barrel sample. My favorite of the 1er Cru whites. Really powerful and intense on the attack. Very good richness and concentration. A kaleidoscope of flavors across the broad palate. 92+ point potential.
White
2016 Faiveley Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Barrel sample. Big bold aromas. Very good concentration and richness. Already showing good poise and balance. Long, flavored finish. A clear step up from the good 1er Cru whites. 93+ point potential.
Red
2016 Faiveley Volnay 1er Cru Les Fremiets France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Barrel sample. Very forward plush black cherry with earth and florals. Good concentration of fleshy fruit. With nice freshness and lift in the finish. 90-92+ potential.
Red
2016 Faiveley Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru
Barrel sample. The nose here is bigger and more brooding. Roasted black cherry with big round tannin. Structured like a longer-term ager.
Red
2016 Faiveley Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Damodes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Barrel sample. A delicious showing -- big floral and spice nose. The palate is simply delicious at the moment with black cherry that is laced with spice and floral notes throughout. Silky mouthfeel with enough structure to support the fruit. Punching above it's class. 93+ point potential.

Red
2016 Faiveley Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Barrel sample. This is also an impressive 1er Cru though less showy than the NSG Damode. Black cherry and meaty spice. Good richness and concentration with the freshness to match. Firm tannic finish. Assume this will outperform in the long run. 92-93+ point potential.

Red
2016 Faiveley Echezeaux En Orveaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
Barrel sample. Based on the explanation given during our tasting, I believe all Faiveley Ech will be labeled as "En Orveaux". Really intense aromas -- baking spice, red and black cherries. Great concentration and layering. Explosive in the mouth. Impressive. 93-95+ point potential.

Red
2016 Faiveley Charmes-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Barrel sample. Full non-delineated aromas of black cherry, meat and spice. Dense and concentrated with lots of power, but still has enough lift and elegance. Very good length. 92-94+ point potential
Red
2016 Faiveley Latricières-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru
Barrel sample. Very similar in profile to the Cazetiers but bigger and more brooding. Perhaps this is the better of the wines in the long run, but not a given.

Red
2016 Faiveley Chambertin-Clos de Bèze France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
Barrel sample. Very typical Gevrey/Beze profile and similar to the other Gevery GC wines but with more of everything. Excellent bursting intensity in the mouth. Good structure and tension. Excellent 95+ point potential.
Red
2016 Faiveley Corton-Clos des Cortons Faiveley France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Barrel sample. This is big, rich and dense. Fruit is currently on the jammy side of the spectrum, but there's plenty of structure too. Needs a lot of time. 92-94+ point potential.
