Lasagna Dinner at Karen's House with Italian wines

Princeton, NJ

Introduction

Italian wines paired with a meat lasagna from D'Angelo's in Princeton, NJ. A casual, fun night with a Coravin.

Red fruit, lots of cherries, dried fruits, leather, some herbs and a touch of menthol on the finish (particularly initially). Good on its own but really excellent with the meat lasagna from D'Angelo's: it loved the tomatoes, meat and all the flavors. Perhaps not the very best showing of this wine, but a respectable one. This seemed more advanced than the bottle we had in 2013, so it might be time to drink up. (Or could be bottle variation). To be fair, it was also a little overpowered by the Tormaresca Bocca di Lupo, which we also had that night, and is a much more powerful wine.

I think this was our last bottle (from a case purchased in 2010), although the inventory says there is one more bottle here.

What a neat wine, Notes of currant, cherries, herbs, and tar. A deep, dark wine with still quite a lot of tannins. Went ok with the meat lasagna but really best on its own.

Drink now but it has time, too. Perhaps 5+ years more?
