Red
2012 St. Innocent Pinot Noir FUJIN Momtazi Vineyard
90 points
Rich, ripe red and black cherry with some sweet spice and a hint of new oak that will benefit from more cellar time. Very good weight to start, with good length that falls off slightly at the finish. This will improve with age, better 2022-.
Flight 3 - Soter (7 notes)
Rosé
2017 North Valley Vineyards Pinot Noir Rosé
Tasting at the winery. Fun, light, easy, perhaps slightly thin.
Red
2012 Soter Pinot Noir Origin Series McMinnville
88 points
Tasting at the winery. Lots of black cherry throughout with charming nose showing a trace of sausage. Similar flavors, just less forward today, with meaty spice in the middle and a slightly backward finish. I suspect a few years in the cellar have been kind to this wine, and a few more years will help further.

White
2014 North Valley Vineyards Chardonnay Reserve
87 points
Tasting at the winery. Fleshy apple and pear with ginger, butter and honeycomb. Surprised to hear this is only 50% composed of wine that finished ML, given its richness. Best to drink young.
Rosé - Sparkling
2006 Soter Brut Rosé Mineral Springs Ranch
90 points
Tasting at the winery. 2016 disgorgement. Very impressive. Mostly Chardonnay, seems so Chardonnay in its precision and backbone. Very good breadth, length and mousse. Slightly earthy and bready, but not in a way that dominates the flavors. Very good now.

Red
2014 Antica Terra Pinot Noir Antikythera
92 points
Tasting at the winery. Lots of cherry with even more baking spice. Intriguing and unfolding, this seems to tell you it’s forward and simply fun, but layers in the background hint at more complex enjoyment as this ages.

Red
2015 North Valley Vineyards Pinot Noir Reserve
88 points
Tasting at the winery. Very ripe red cherry with good structure throughout, but not quite the depth of Co rages that give more complexity. Enjoy young.

89 points
Tasting at the winery. Cross-section of apple aromas and flavors with good depth, very good balance.
White
2016 Flaneur Chardonnay La Belle Promenade
90 points
Tasting at the winery. Lean and so elegant in a manner rarely seen in US Chardonnay, in fact below 13% alcohol. Lot so apple and pear throughout with engaging acidity, finishing with some ripe lemon and candied lemon peel. Could pass for a good Puligny.
Red
2014 Flaneur Pinot Noir
87 points
Tasted at the winery. Bright red fruit with slightly sweet spice that adds hints of nuance to a ripe wine. Certainly good for entry-level in the ripe vintage.
Red
2015 Flaneur Pinot Noir X-Novo Vineyard
Tasting at the winery. Ripe and fleshy with good concentration and big dollop of sweetness, but enough structure to maintain some reserve and restraint. Still quite big.
Red
2015 Flaneur Pinot Noir Flanerie Vineyard
Tasting at the winery. More interesting and nuanced flavors vs X-Novo just tasted, but without the same concentration. Good potential for a young vineyard.

Red
2016 Flaneur Pinot Noir Revelry

Flight 10 - Soléna (5 notes)
My only disappointing visit of the trip
White
2017 Soléna Pinot Gris
Tasting at the winery. Extremely ripe, perhaps flabby, but maybe served too warm?
Red
2016 Soléna Pinot Noir Hyland Vineyard
88 points
Tasting at the winery. Light color, elegant red cherry and berry throughout. Forward start, moderate weight easily appreciated, texturally interesting finish. G+ medium-term potential.
Red
2015 Soléna Pinot Noir Domaine Danielle Laurent
Tasting at the winery. Ultra ripe with so much black fruit that I find slightly too warm all the way from start-to-finish.
Red
2015 Soléna Pinot Noir Zena Crown Vineyard
85 points
Tasting at the winery. To me, a clear step up from Danielle Laurent, but still too ripe and barely balance. Good concentration, but that isn’t quite enough here.
Red
2015 Soléna Cabernet Sauvignon Klipsun Vineyard
87 points
Tasting at the winery. Black fruit with fine balance and more of the classic, older world style I expected from this producer. Black currant and cherry with good balance and energy throughout. Also best to enjoy young.
