Introduction

This was the monthly tasting group event. The theme was rose on the patio. Unfortunatley the weather didn;t want us to enjoy roe on the patio. So twenty of us settled for rose in the kitchen and family room. Hey, we didn't suffer much. The wine was excellent and the food was very good.

Flight 1 (20 notes)

Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. Jean Laurent Champagne Brut Rosé France, Champagne
88 points
Medium salmon color. Drank a small pour. Disgorged 8/11. I've had this once before about three & a half years ago. I have no idea if that was from the same lot or not, but I enjoyed that bottle more than this one. Seemed like a bit more RS here, there's something different on the palate that I couldn't put my finger on and it has some bitterness on the finish.
Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. Roederer Estate Brut Rosé Anderson Valley USA, California, North Coast, Anderson Valley
91 points
Small glass. Always a winner in my book. This bottle was very consistent with my note from 3/6/19. Maybe I just appreciate the price point and value; no that's only part of it. This is just such a nice wine. Right in my wheelhouse of elegance and class.

N.V. J. Lassalle Champagne Premier Cru Brut Rosé France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru

Light medium pink color. Small glass. Brief note; great structure, yeast, pretty red berries, graceful. See my previous notes for more details. Very glad I've got a few of my own left!
Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. Billecart-Salmon Champagne Brut Rosé France, Champagne
92 points
Small glass. Brief note; really a fine wine. This seemed particularly delicate and lacy tonight offering an almond chiffon laced with strawberry.

2008 Moët & Chandon Champagne Grand Vintage Rosé France, Champagne
93 points
Light medium salmon color. Drank a glass over 20 minutes. One of my favorites of the night, this was firing on all cylinders again. Complex with earth, biscuit, strawberry and cherry, almond paste, and nice stony minerality. This has the power and depth without being at all heavy. I remember the first time we had one of these, and this takes me back.

N.V. Cesarini Sforza Trento Brut Rosé Metodo Classico Italy, Trentino-Alto Adige, Trentino, Trento

Perfectly acceptable, if a bit lighter and lacking the distinction of Champagne, but it would be a decent summer quaffer though I'd like it at a lower tariff.

Rosé
2014 Chateau Musar Rosé Lebanon, Bekaa Valley

Oxidizing, but not completely undrinkable. You could see where this was likely an intriguing and complex wine. Has a funky old world character.

2008 Sine Qua Non The Pontiff USA, California, Central Coast

Yikes, this was long dead and gone. I question the listed CT window of drinking through 2015.
Rosé
2018 Big Table Farm Laughing Pig Rosé USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
88 points
Deeper copper red color and a bigger platform, but I like it. Clearly a new world style, bolder fruit but still has the character and acidity to make it interesting. Tart, strawberry, red currants, creamy texture and some tannin.
Rosé
2017 Domaine de Terrebrune Bandol Rosé France, Provence, Bandol
92 points
Light copper pink color. Drank a small glass over 20 minutes. This was the first of a series of Bandol roses including 2 vintages of Tempier ('16, '17) and an '18 Pibarnon, all of which were excellent. I was a little worried reading the CT notes on this ahead of time, but that was much ado about nothing. I found this to be outstanding and right up there with the Tempier's. To me this is a bit of a hybrid, offering the sheer elegance of Provence, but with all the complexity and nuance that comes from Bandol. Very elegant, fantastic minerality, wet stones, great acidity, so bright and lifted, light berry fruit and very good length. 91+ to 92pts.

2018 Château de Pibarnon Bandol Rosé France, Provence, Bandol

This was the second of a series of Bandol roses including 2 vintages of Tempier ('16, '17) and an '18 Terrebrune, all of which were excellent. This was a little less expressive than the others, but still offers a complex and very fine rose with structure and depth that I'm always happy to drink.
Rosé
2016 Domaine Tempier Bandol Rosé France, Provence, Bandol

This was part of a series of Bandol roses including 2 vintages of Tempier ('16, '17), a '18 Terrebruce and an '18 Pibarnon, all of which were excellent. I'm admittedly a Tempier slut, so sue me, I don't care. Say what you want, these give me the most complexity of pretty much any rose out there. They have amazing noses of ocean breezes and earthiness, lovely red fruit, peach and citrus, with floral overtones. The palate delivers with power with grace along with blissful minerality and length. I very slightly prefer the 16 over the 17 currently for the extra ocean and earth character. 92 to 92+pts

Rosé
2017 Château Pégau Pink Pégau France, Vin de France

Light pink color. Never had the Pegau rose before. It was nice and light, fresh with bright delicate berry fruit. 88+ to 89pts.

2018 North Valley Vineyards Pinot Noir Rosé USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley

Same bottle as Chablis28. Had a different vintage of this back at IPNC last year and remember liking it. I think this was even better. I agree with Craig's take on the Provencal character of this wine. Delightful style.
Rosé
2016 Bonavita Terre Siciliane Rosato Italy, Sicily, Terre Siciliane

This was different; bigger and bolder in style, tart strawberry, dry and spicy, not much minerality.
Rosé
2018 Biohof Pratsch Rosé Austria, Niederösterreich

Ripe and fruity, cherry, some spritz, some minerality, ok. 87 to 88pt.
Rosé
2018 Maîtres Vignerons de la Presqu'ile de Saint-Tropez Côtes de Provence Fleur de Mer Rosé France, Provence, Côtes de Provence

Very pale color. Love the florals, rose petals, crisp wet stones, peach, raspberry, beautiful.
Rosé
2018 Commanderie de la Bargemone Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence Cuvée Marina France, Provence, Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence

No notes, good, fairly typical. Unique bottle shape. Would be annoying to store it though.
Rosé
2017 Bodegas Los Bermejos Listan Negro Rosado Spain, Canary Islands, Lanzarote

Same bottle as JCGuthrie. This was a first, and a pleasant surprise at that. This has quite a bit going on and I really like the mineral denity and the fruit profile. Refreshing and lively.
