Introduction
I took an hour around lunchtime to taste a small fraction of the interesting wines available.
Flight 1 (31 notes)
Red
2015 d'Arenberg Cabernet Sauvignon The Coppermine Road
Walkaround tasting, brief note. Tannic beast with lots of ripe fruit, lots of power, but off-center for now. Not my style.
Red
2016 d'Arenberg Shiraz The Dead Arm
90 points
Walkaround tasting, brief note. 100% Shiraz. Ripe, dense and powerful while also well balanced with near finessed finish that I really enjoyed.
Red
2016 d'Arenberg The Ironstone Pressings
89 points
Walkaround tasting, brief note. Ripe black fruit dominates with lots of density and power, with nearly good balance. Very good length, but needs a few years in the cellar to soften.
Red
2018 Giant Steps Pinot Noir
85 points
Walkaround tasting, brief note. Pale color, aromas and flavors with good balance. Pleasant but simple.
Red
2018 Giant Steps Pinot Noir Sexton Vineyard
88 points
Walkaround tasting, brief note. Black cherry on nose and palate with spice throughout, whole cluster slightly too pronounced right now. Slightly fat and warm finish, but not too distracting.

Red
2018 Giant Steps Pinot Noir Applejack Vineyard
90 points
Walkaround tasting, brief note. The clear start of the lineup tasted. Red and black cherry with a bright, elegant start. Got bigger and bolder from middle-through-finish with very good textures. Very enjoyable now, with upside.

Walkaround tasting, brief note. From volcanic soil. Lots of fun fruit, but less nuanced particularly texturally. Good to enjoy young.

Red
2017 Henschke Pinot Noir Giles Lenswood
Walkaround tasting, brief note. Very light and nearly elegant with an intriguing cross-section of lighter styled red fruit with floral hints. Somewhat underwhelming.
Red
2017 Henschke Henry's Seven
88 points
Walkaround tasting, brief note. Interesting and nuanced mostly red fruit aromas and flavors, coming across as so fun now and well balanced with good depth, medium length.
Red
2016 Henschke Johann's Garden
87 points
Walkaround tasting, brief note. Fun but simple with rich black and red berry that comes across as easy and fun. Just not much of a good value wine.
Red
2015 Henschke Keyneton Euphonium
89 points
Walkaround tasting, brief note. 57% Shiraz, 26% Cab Sauv, with some Merlot and Cab Franc. Ripe black plum and currant comes across as ripe, meaty and well spiced with good depth. Better to cellar another year or three, then enjoy.
Red
2015 Henschke Shiraz Mount Edelstone
92 points
Walkaround tasting, brief note. Now we're talking! Black currant and cassis with a spiced finish. Such impressive concentration made me ask about vine age (planted 1912), while so elegant in fruit, textures and balance. Sneaky power on finish. Tasty now, better 2022 forward.

2017 Kay Brothers Grenache Basket Pressed Amery Vineyards
88 points
Walkaround tasting, brief note. Spicy black fruit with good depth and richness throughout that deftly avoids sweetness. Good balance. Very good wine for its probable price.

2016 Kay Brothers Shiraz Basket Pressed Amery Vineyards
86 points
Walkaround tasting, brief note. Much less interested or balanced vs 2017 Grenache Basket Pressed. Big fruit, but rugged and not quite centered.
Red
2015 Kay Brothers Shiraz Block 6 Amery Vineyards
91 points
Walkaround tasting, brief note. Old vine black fruit concentration with mint, spice and sage hints. Elegant tannins with good+ length and enough other stuff to stand up to the inherent ripeness. Very good.
Red
2017 Kay Brothers Cabernet Sauvignon The Cuthbert
86 points
Walkaround tasting, brief note. Fat, big black fruit. Seems one dimensional and lacking cut.
Red
2015 Kay Brothers Shiraz Hillside Amery Vineyards
89 points
Walkaround tasting, brief note. Rich black fruit with sweet spice that gets close to an overall sweet character, but retains a savory disposition. Good+ depth and balance, better to cellar a few years.
White
2011 Brokenwood Sémillon ILR Reserve
89 points
Walkaround tasting, brief note. Bright fruit with impressive concentration that made me think this old vine, but it's not. Fun wine with good depth. Good now.

White - Fortified
N.V. Chambers Rosewood Muscadelle (Tokay)
87 points
Walkaround tasting, brief note. Fun and easy with caramel apple and good depth in the middle. Simple but balanced and enjoyable.
White - Fortified
N.V. Chambers Rosewood Muscat
87 points
Walkaround tasting, brief note. More floral and engaging vs Muscadelle, even if less weight or complexity on palate. Also very good value and enjoyable.
White - Fortified
N.V. Chambers Rosewood Muscat Grand
92 points
Walkaround tasting, brief note. Floral and complex spices on nose with good+ weight, good length. Charmingly sweet with very good balance.
White - Fortified
N.V. Chambers Rosewood Muscadelle Grand
94 points
Walkaround tasting, brief note. Complex aromas and flavors with sweet figs, candied orange peel, toffee and sweet spice. So much here with great weight and textural richness. For me, this Muscadelle (Tokay) has always been a step up over the Muscat in the Rare and Grand cuvees.
Red
2013 Jasper Hill Nebbiolo Georgia's Paddock
90 points
Walkaround tasting, brief note. Ripe black fruit throughout with good+ depth and intensity with near elegant balance. Good now.
Red
2017 Penfolds Shiraz Bin 28 Kalimna
88 points
Walkaround tasting, brief note. Another great success for this wine at this price. Not the most complex array of fruit aromas or flavors, but good depth and balance. Very good now.
Red
2017 Penfolds Bin 389
Walkaround tasting, brief note. Rich throughout with background spice most prominent on its long, complex finish. Firm and tannic for now, very good 90-91+ point potential 2022 forward.
Red
2017 Penfolds Cabernet Sauvignon Bin 407
89 points
Walkaround tasting, brief note. Big , dense and meaty black cherry and currant with cassis and espresso. Fun start, more firm on middle so less forthcoming. Less exciting vs Bin 389 blend to me.
Red
2015 Penfolds Grange
Walkaround tasting, brief note. This bottle had just been opened and decanted, and was very reductive, making it difficult to fully assess. Still, so much black plum, anise, eucalyptus and root beer. Sensational concentration with coiled energy and massive tannins that already seem softening. Built to last. Excellent potential.

Walkaround tasting, brief note. Fat, ripe and fun black fruit that barely manages to retain a savory character. Simple, but certainly enjoyable.

2018 Yangarra Estate Grenache Ovitelli Grenache
85 points
Walkaround tasting, brief note. Good richness, flavorful enough, but lacking depth.
Red
2016 Yangarra Estate Grenache High Sands
88 points
Walkaround tasting, brief note. Good richness, flavorful enough, but lacking depth. The best of the Yangarra I tasted today. Rich, fat start that got brighter and more concentrated in the middle, nearly hinting at mineral textures on long-ish finish. Needs time.

Red
2016 Yangarra Estate Shiraz Ironheart
Walkaround tasting, brief note. Good richness, flavorful enough, but lacking depth. Big, bold, rich and tannic with lots of fruit and density but lacking charm and balance for me. Maybe not my style, maybe needing cellar time, but not a wine I'd ever consider at its price, even while understanding why some are thrilled with this style of wine.
