Introduction

Online tasting comparing these two classic regions of France

Flight 1 (6 notes)

White
2016 Domaine Thomas Morey Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Baudines France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
92 points
Nose starts buttery but cut through with a lovely mineral freshness and lemon peel, a hint of tropical fruit - great balance off the bat.
Palate: again great balance between the rich buttery notes and lemon peel, a hint of apple and vanilla. Good acidity with a pleasing pull in of the cheeks!
Lovely stuff
White
2015 Château Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
92 points
Really interesting nose - quite high toned initially but gives ways to a lovely perfumed pink grapefruit and some Haribo candy notes and some cardamon spice
Palate is rich but cut through by the grapefruit. Long finish. Really started to sing with some air

2016 Domaine de Montille Pommard 1er Cru Rugiens-Bas France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru
93 points
Nose is very clean yet dense (if that means anything), redcurrant and cherry backed up with a crisp minerality
Palate is red currant and cherry then plenty of fine tannins speaking to typical Pommard. Lovely long finish.
This feels like it's going places but isn't there yet.

2004 Vieux Château Certan France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
93 points
This is in the zone now.
Nose immeadiately delivers tertiary notes truffle, rare steak, some herbs and tobacco
Palate delivers on the nose with tobacco, inky bramble fruit.
Really really nice but a slightly curtailed finish.
Drink now or in next few years
Red
2009 Domaine des Lambrays Clos des Lambrays France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru
95 points
I think this is my first Grand Cru Burgundy so take by novice notes with a pinch of salt

Nose is fabulous: Allspice, nutmeg, pepper, some sous bois, lovely savouriness all cut through with a seam of mineral freshness

Palate: No layering of notes here - everything comes at once - it's a frankincense spiced fruit mix. Very long finish.

Lovely stuff

Wowsers what a wine

Nose: truffle, dirt, leather and animal notes but some red and black fruit sweetness there too
Palate: A bit lost for words to begin with - some incense, truffle, dried red and black fruit. Good acidity still and an incredibly long finish. Really delicious. For me WOTN
