Tasted April 4, 2021 by VlgJeff with 80 views

Introduction

Greg, Donna, 2 of their 3 children, and us.

Flight 1 - With Appetizers (2 notes)

White
2018 Four Vines Chardonnay Naked Chardonnay USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Barbara County
87 points
Slo-oxed for 10 minutes, chilled. Straight-forward, simple, but does the job. Chardonnay with appetizers for Easter Dinner.
Red
2018 Domaine des Maisons Neuves Côte de Brouilly L'Écluse France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Côte de Brouilly
87 points
Slo-oxed for !5 minutes, slight chill. Medium to minus bodied with light red fruits (raspberry, cranberry, cherry) and touches of earth and spice. Fair acidity and can probably hold for another year. Nice complement to appetizers at Easter Dinner.

Flight 2 - With the Entree = Ham (3 notes)

White
2019 Dr. Loosen Riesling Blue Slate Kabinett Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
89 points
Slo-oxed for 15 minutes, chilled. White peach and minerality on the nose. The medium bodied palate showed the white peach, along with some apple, citrus and the minerality. There was only a touch of sweetness which, I believe, was Kabinett appropriate. Overall, a relatively simple but pleasant wine. Should hold for a couple of years.

Red
2011 Kosta Browne Pinot Noir Gap's Crown Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
92 points
Slo-oxed for ~30 minutes, and more is better. The wine was a clear purple with fading to the rim. The nose put forth plenty of dark red fruits (black cherry) along with a modest amount of earth. On the palate the wine showed medium plus body, with gobs of red and black cherries, some earth, some spice, sufficient acidity to balance, a touch of cola, and nicely integrated tannins. The wine could last another couple of years, but is highly enjoyable now.
Red
2013 Daou Vineyards Unbound USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles
91 points
Slo-oxed for 20 minutes, and might have benefitted from some additional air time. The color of this Petite Sirah/Tannat/Tempranillo blend was an opaque purple, with some slight sediment. The nose was clean and brimming with dark red and blue fruits. The medium to plus bodied palate showed these same dark red and blue fruits, along with some minerality. The acidity was lively and balancing, and there were still some unresolved tannins on the finish. This wine will hold, and possibly improve, over the next few years.

Closing

Great food -- Bone-in Ham as the Entrée -- and pretty good wine.
