Garnet red with a transparent rim. Elegant bouquet with pleasant garrigue. On the palate very juicy fruits and elegance as well. Beautiful herbs and spices, some sweet licorice and chocolate as well as a pleasant touch of oak. The wine has a beautiful balance between acidity and sweetness, good freshness and tannin with still a friendly bite. Overall a beautiful and harmonious wine entering its maturity stage. No problem cellaring this for another 3+ years.

On the palate a very juicy wine with a lot of garrigue, red and dark berry fruits, dark cherries, some oak, pleasant acidity and tannin with still a firm bite. Overall a jammy and beautiful wine which is entering its maturity stage, but will probably improve a bit with some more ageing. 91 – 92 for tonight.

Bouquet with red berry fruits, garrigue and fresh herbs as well, laurel, some minerals and a clear touch of barnyard. On the palate a somewhat sweet start followed by fresh herbs and garrigue, a beautiful balance between acidity and sweetness and mild tannin. Overall a not overly concentrated, elegant wine with good freshness. Maturity stage now and no problem cellaring this for another 3+ years. 91 - 92

The bouquet is still a bit locked, but shows dark berry fruits, soft garrigue and some sweet licorice. On the palate good fruits, a lot of sweet spices like cinnamon, licorice root, minerals, oaky flavors, juicy acidity and beautifully round tannin with still a firm bite. Great length and the alcohol shows a bit, but not in a disturbing way. Great length. Modern made and tempting, but in fact still a bit too young. Wait another 3 years is probably wise. 93+ for tonight.

Beautiful and exclusive bouquet with dark and red berry fruits, soft garrigue and sweet licorice. On the palate juicy fruits, raisins, a lot of sweet spices like cinnamon, chocolate and melted and integrated tannin. Overall an intense and elegant, beautiful wine which is completely ready now, but no real hurry either. 92+

Beautiful and rich bouquet with sweet and ripe mainly dark and also some red forest fruits, sweet spices and soft garrigue. On the palate the wine is more locked than the basic Clos Saint Jean. A lot of good and ripe dark fruits like blackberry and blueberry, beautiful garrigue, some chocolate, sweet licorice and caramel. There is a beautiful balance between the acidity and sweetness. The tannin is soft and round with still a good bite. If I remember correctly the wine was double decanted approx 5 hours prior to the tasting and the wine was really open for business. Really beautiful, complex and tempting. Early maturity now and I would love to taste this again around 2021.

The bouquet is still a bit locked, but there are dark berry fruits, somewhat hidden garrigue and a touch of forest floor. On the palate a beautiful an juicy wine with dark berries again, plums, licorice and some coffee, beautiful acidity in good harmony with some sweet notes and good tannin. Early maturity now and around 2018+ still a lovely bottle. 92+

This was a bottle that did not perform as it should, so I do not score the wine. My tasting notes are: In the bouquet tea and some barnyard. On the palate quite reductive with still spiciness, but also celery, chocolate and mocha, iodine and vegetables. Very mature and still drinkable, but not giving the pleasure it should. This was a very well kept bottle since release, so what a pity.

Still a dark red color. The complex rustic bouquet shows ripe dark berries, cedar and soft garrigue. On the palate a great concentration. Juicy and ripe dark forest fruits and dark cherries, vanilla and laurel. Beautiful acidity and still youthful tannin. Beautiful and full bodied wine with a great length. In its very early maturity stage now and between 2020 and 2025 the wine will probably show more of its finesse. Great wine! 95+

In the bouquet ripe dark forest fruits, flowers, toast, coffee and some floral impressions. Same on the palate. Here also the garrigue shows more clearly. Firm acidity and tannin with still a firm bite. Good concentration. Beautiful wine which needs a few more years to really show what it has in store. Not before 2018. Better between 2020 and 2024+. 92++ for tonight.

This is the second bottle of Pegau 2006 the last 5 months that doesn't seem to fit with what I am used to from Pegau. Or is it the vintage? I have one bottle myself which I will try to save until 2018 or later, so there will be a follow up on this note. Still a beautiful and elegant wine with in the bouquet some garrigue, tobacco, cocoa and toast. On the palate quite complex and elegant with firm acidity and even some impressions of bell pepper. No more notes and I did not score the wine. (But 90+ no problem)

Beautiful, complex, a bit rustic and expressive bouquet with beautifully ripe dark forest fruits, sweet spices and a beautiful dose of exclusive oak. On the palate the sweet spices dominate, soft red and dark berry fruits as well, beautiful acidity and lovely, ripe and round tannin with a soft and pleasant bite. In the long finish the beautiful dose of oak shows. Very tempting wine already. Give it a few more years so the oak can integrate even a bit more. In the early 2020’s this will definitely still be a lovely wine. Underrated wine and a great value for money.

Beautiful bouquet with ripe fruits and good garrigue. On the palate juicy dark berry fruits, plums, herbs and spices and some tobacco. A beautiful balance between acidity and sweetness and although the round tannin still has some bite, the wine is more developed than Beaucastel tasted just before this one. According to a person who really knows this wine well this bottle is not representative. Anyway, I liked it and scored it 94.

Beautiful bouquet with yellow fruits like peach, flowers and some smoke. On the palate white and yellow fruits. No more notes, but this is a lovely wine.

In the bouquet white and yellow fruits and flowers. At first a bit reductive in the nose. On the palate ripe yellow fruits, minerals and good acidity. Still quite young. 91+?

Beautiful bouquet with ripe yellow fruits and a lot of vanilla from the oak, but the fruits can handle it. Same on the palate, very concentrated, apricots, nougat, marzipan. A beautiful and luxurious wine.
