Pale/medium straw. Classic nose - discreet, minerally, touch of lemon and apple. Medium bodied, sleek, linear, steely minerals, just a light creamy edge, vibrant acidity, good length finish. Drinking beautifully.

Medium gold. Mature nose, honey, over-ripe apple, touch of butterscotch. Similar on palate, a little flat with soft acidity and short finish. Past it’s best.

Flight 3 (3 notes)

Red
2012 Domaine Michel Lafarge Volnay France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay

Pale garnet. Nose shows raspberry fruit, violets, just a sense of soil. Medium bodied, soft tannins, pure raspberry fruit, touch of soil, fresh acidity, good length, harmonious finish. Lovely, understated, village Volnay.

Medium/deep garnet. Nose shows ripe, dark fruit, smoke, spice, rich soil. Quite complex. Medium/full bodied, again rich, dark fruit, earth, spice, firmish but fine tannins, vibrant acidity long still grippy finish. Complex Volnay in a rich style, still a pup. Now to at least 2035.
Red
2004 Comte Armand Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Epeneaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru
90 points
Deep garnet. Rich nose, dark fruit, meat, dung, touch of bovril. Medium/full bodied, mouth-filling, rich dark fruit, spice, meaty notes, fresh tannins, slightly firm but good length finish. Delicious if full on.

Quietly aromatic, red cherry, soil, touch of iron. Medium bodied, lean, linear, pure transparent cherry fruit, soil notes, firm but fine tannins, vibrant acidity, just a touch of game on the good length finish. Lovely, drinking but with potential for further ageing.
