Introduction

Pulled out some Cortons from the cellar to have a little taste...

Flight 1 (9 notes)

Red
2005 Domaine d'Ardhuy Corton-Les Hautes Mourottes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
From Coravin. Earth, slightly sour/wild red and black fruits, a little sweet spice, savoury meaty underpin, with some mushroomy notes, slightly brambly. Juicy, medium plus intensity acidity, red and black hued fruit roll around the palate accompanied by some slightly woody and drying tannins, sweet spice, non-intrusive alcohol warmth on the finish, still has time.
Red
2006 Faiveley Corton-Clos des Cortons Faiveley France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
From Coravin. Savoury, slightly woody; cedar, sweet spice, fruit a little underpowered for the oak component and shows as lightweight; sweet blackberry and blueberry. Juicy, fleshy, clean, again I find the oak is slightly too much for the fruit…it's not an oak bomb by any stretch of the imagination but just a bit out of whack.

Red
2007 Domaine de Montille Corton-Clos du Roi France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
From Coravin. Bonfire, Autumn leaves, mushrooms, berries, almost a little coffee note, touch of ashiness, a touch of umami, fresh earth, biscuit, lovely nose. Juicy, savoury, fleshy, tangy, tannins are drying though talc textured, flavours of mushrooms, berries, biscuit, beautifully balanced. Long. Yum.
Red
2008 Benoît Germain Corton-Bressandes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
From Coravin. Slightly charred almost charcoaled meat, red berries and currants with a touch of pickled pine mushroom note, bacon fat and, with time, some darker fruits and savoury mineral notes. Nice nose. The palate is very much a reflection of the nose with some umami and yeast extract notes joining the other flavours. Soft tannic burr and a sense of fleshiness. Lovely.
Red
2009 P. Dubreuil-Fontaine Père & Fils Corton-Clos du Roi France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
From Coravin. Very slightly resinous black hued fruits, sweet spice, a little alcohol prickle lends a touch of peppery spice, slightly more savoury with time. Medium plus intensity acidity, savoury, a little foursquare and touch on the palate with some alcohol warmth on the finish. Fruit quite muted, showing a little cherry. Hmm. it's a bit bolshy. Time may help but I have my doubts.
Red
2011 Follin-Arbelet Corton-Perrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
From Coravin. Ashy, savoury notes over brambly fruit and a touch of red berry, a little herbaceous underpin, sweet spice, very whole bunch. Juicy, tightly textured grip though ashy fruit persists long. A few more years will help this come together for me.
Red
2012 P. Dubreuil-Fontaine Père & Fils Corton-Clos du Roi France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
From Coravin. Blackcurrant and, like the 2009, a very slight resinous notes, sweet spice, a touch of savouriness and meaty underpin grows with time. Fleshy, juicy, black hued fruits, talc textured tannins, a sense of 'roundness' on the palate. Long, finishes quite savoury meaty. Rather nice.
Red
2013 Domaine Cornu Corton France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
From Coravin. Wild ferment, jubey, pretty red berries, a little sweet spice, quite 'carbo crush'. Rather lovely nose. And equally lovely on the palate with a little smoky savouriness off-setting the pretty fruits. Tannins are silky and offer a textured burr under the fruit. Lovely.
Red
2013 Domaine Bruno Clavelier Corton-Rognet Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
From Coravin. Meaty, savoury, dark hued fruits, a little tarry note, quite struck match/bacon fat reductiveness overall quite concentrated on the nose. Juicy, that reductive note quite forward on the palate, detracting from the wild black fruit, tannins are little chalky textured, time and plenty of it for me.

Closing

I do like cortons generally...the Faiveley was a bit disappointing in this line up...
