Matt and Brenda's, Minneapolis, MN

Introduction

This was the second coming of the hopefully annual Rose Fest at Matt and Brenda's place. we had a great group of about 22 peeps. We've been in a rather nasty drought, but today was day that decided to provide some wet relief. Not a bust, as we got outside for a time though. This is always such a great event - so fun, excellent wines, and the food is usually even better. Thanks to everyone for their culinary contributions. Thanks to M and B for hosting.

Flight 1 (20 notes)

Rosé
2019 Domaines Ott Côtes de Provence Rosé Château de Selle France, Provence, Côtes de Provence
91 points
Ultra pale yellow color. Drank a glass over 30 minutes. This is what I love of about Provencal rose; refined and delicate, filled with Mistral sea air, peach, red berry and melon, fine mineral notes, spice and nice acidity Very spot on from a bottle 2 years ago. 91+pts.

Pale salmon color. Drank a glass over 15 minutes. This was quite nice; offering a decidedly toasty nose with toasted almonds, strawberry, river rock and a touch of smokiness. On the elegant side, well balanced and no edges. Excellent. 91+ to 92pts.

N.V. Laurent-Perrier Champagne Cuvée Rosé Brut France, Champagne

Medium salmon color. Small glass. Delightful as always, a picture of class, wonderful fruit, so balanced and graceful, such pretty red berries and just the right spice notes on a florally infused nose as well. Sea air, fine chalk, it's all there.

Rosé
2019 Bodegas Los Bermejos Listan Negro Rosado Spain, Canary Islands, Lanzarote
87 points
Deeper cherry red color. Small pour. Others like this a lot. I'm not really enamoured with it myself. I find the fruit more candied and liqueurish with some rather sharp edges.
Rosé
2022 Arnot-Roberts Rosé USA, California
88 points
Light plus salmon color. Small pour. This was on the lean side, and surprisingly Provence-like in its character with red berries and a decent minerality. I thought this might be bigger and rather fruity given the Touriga Nacional, but no.
Rosé
2016 Domaine Tempier Bandol Rosé France, Provence, Bandol
91 points
Pale salmon color. Small glass. Had this last about a year and a half ago. Still drinking nicely, though i actually thought it might be tiring at first, but given a bit more time it came out of its shell. Sea air, strawberry, and melon on the nose, strawberry, watermelon, dry stone and subtle brine on the palate. Ranking the vertical and including a brilliant '17 from a couple days before: '17, '18, '21, '16, ,'19 then '20 with a fairly tight grouping. 91+pts.
Rosé
2021 Domaine Tempier Bandol Rosé France, Provence, Bandol
92 points
Light pink color. Small glass. Still a bit youthfully precocious, very fresh and lively, super acidity, drinking great, number two of the night. Ranking the vertical and including the brilliant '17 from a couple days before: '17, '18, '21, '16, '19 then '20 with a fairly tight grouping. 92+pts.

Rosé
2018 Domaine Tempier Bandol Rosé France, Provence, Bandol

Lighter Atlantic Salmon color. Small glass. Gorgeous, just gorgeous, the best of the group today and almost up to the '17 from a couple nights ago. This is so vibrant and fresh, all the complexity you want, wonderful florals, bright fruits, it feels like you are swirling around in the breezes of a perched village. Ranking the vertical and including the brilliant '17 from a couple days before: '17, '18, '21, '16, , '19 then '20 with a fairly tight grouping. 92+ to 93pts.

Rosé
2020 Domaine Tempier Bandol Rosé France, Provence, Bandol
91 points
Pale salmon color. Small glass. Largely consistent with the bottle I noted on the 9th, but maybe not quite as resplendent. That said, still excellent and always a treat. Ranking the vertical and including the brilliant '17 from a couple days before: '17, '18, '21, '16, '19, then '20 with a fairly tight grouping. 91+ to 92pts.

Tasting pour. Tangerine, crustaceans, peach, sea breeze. In a nice vertical, the rankings were '17, '18, '21, '16, '19 then '20 with a fairly tight grouping. 91+pts.
Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. Henri Goutorbe Champagne Grand Cru Brut Rosé France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
91 points
Light medium salmon color. Small pour. For whatever reason, I don't seem to see this very often, and i really do like it. I need to seek it out more. Always nicely proportioned, good mineral definition, cherry and berry fruit, light autolytic quality and pasty dough. 91+pts.
Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. Bernard Lonclas Champagne Brut Rosé France, Champagne
90 points
Rather fruity and forward, but not too much, a nice aperitf, berries, sea air, clean and balanced. Higher dosage maybe.
Rosé
2019 Château Simone Palette Rosé France, Provence, Palette
Medium cherry red color. Small glass. Tasted both the '17 and '19, no formal notes, just don't find myself gravitating to this wine. It really needs food, and we were pretty much done eating by the time we got to these. I need some more time with them, score reserved - but my gut thinking is 88-89pts? Appears I am an outlier here.
Rosé
2021 Domaine François Cotat Sancerre Chavignol Rosé France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre
92 points
Pale salmon color. Small glass. Dagnabbit....this good stuff. Earthy, briny, cedar shavings, cherry long, crunchym medium bodied, really good. 91+ to 92pts.
Rosé
2021 Clos Cibonne Tibouren Côtes de Provence Cuvée Tradition Rosé Cru Classé France, Provence, Côtes de Provence
90 points
Tasted, no notes, more power here and depth.
Rosé
2017 Domaine de Terrebrune Bandol Rosé France, Provence, Bandol
91 points
Light salmon color. Drank a glass over 20 minutes. Brought this to the annual rose tasting at Matt and Brenda's. My last '17 and still holding up well. Really mineral driven with deep stone and gravel notes now, lots of saline and then the floral potpourri spice box with strawberry and peach fruits.
Rosé
2021 Château d'Aqueria Tavel France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Tavel
88 points
Deep strawberry color. Small glass. Well, yes it is full and intense and ripe and structured, and a bit more than i prefer in a rose. A bit clunky.
Rosé
2021 Château de L'Escarelle Côteaux Varois France, Provence, Côteaux Varois
90 points
Pale pink color. Small pour. No notes, late in the evening, a nice surprise, but maybe it shouldn't have been. Elegant and pleasant.
Rosé
2017 Château Simone Palette Rosé France, Provence, Palette
Medium cherry red color. Small glass. Tasted both the '17 and '19, no formal notes, just don't find myself gravitating to this wine. It really needs food, and we were pretty much done eating by the time we got to these. I need some more time with them, score reserved - but my gut thinking is 88-89pts.
