White - Sparkling
2008 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut France, Champagne
Real zing on the nose, lovely acidity - just at the upper limit of pleasurable but pleasurable it was. Linearity and purity here - this is jolly good stuff.

White - Sparkling
2008 Eric Legrand Champagne L'Excellence de Belliard Blanc de Blancs France, Champagne
Served alongside the Krug of the same vintage. Clearly the lesser wine - clumsier, oddly a little cloying on the mouth, but one can buy two dozen of these for less than a single Krug so...

2009 Château Ferrière France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
A classed growth bordeaux I'd never heard of. Was wondering if it would even show up in Cellartracker. Decent, well put together claret - pencil shavings on the nose, some freshness at the finish, bottle claims 13% abv but somehow feels a *little* heavier to me. Surprisingly ready to drink I felt.

2010 Château Batailley France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
Compared to its flightmate, a bit more substantial, a bit more polished, and not quite as ready. Thoroughly enjoyable Batailley - i think if i had a few I'd consider opening one over the festive period, but this has a long life ahead of it.

1985 Château Haut-Batailley France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
Proper claret, on a gentle downslope. Wonderful ethereal nose, and the aftertaste that lingers on the palate is really nice - it's only in the middle that you realise this is a little tired and its best days are behind it.
