1/30/24, 6:38 AM - As I said, The flavors were poor: Fruit flavors were flat and indistinct, and the wine was acidic rather than brambly. It tasted more like vegetable juice than wine and out of 6 people all considered it off and poor tasting. As far as structure, there was little or none
11/27/23, 3:27 PM - Google Translation:Great wines at a very value for money! The temperature should not be too low, the aroma is good, and it changes over time, it looks good as a daily wine.
6/30/23, 1:54 PM - ChairmanKao, I believe you will be very pleased when you drink the Mags. They should be maturing about half as fast as the singles. There is, for certain, a loss from the big body cab maturing to the Flowers, but power to elegance can be celebrated. Drink well, my friend!
3/11/23, 11:54 AM - FYI the wine, newest price direct from Hall was up way over $50 from my previous "from Hall price", in Jan 2023 so down, down, down on the QPR
1/13/21, 3:25 PM - I am jealous. I am glad it is still holding up. Drink well!
1/10/21, 11:49 AM - And it indicates my storage is doing ok!
1/10/21, 11:53 AM - If I live 20 more years I will happily taste 27 year-old Brunellos, but by then my taste buds will be far less discerning. Happy tasting in the New Year!
1/10/21, 11:57 AM - This wine is one of the best drinkers around. I still have a few '14s but it is very hard to hide from my wife.
6/25/17, 3:15 PM - Just a comment on the 96 rating; it was James Halliday whom I believe to be a good and honest evaluator but I judge he has an extremely strong bias toward big fruity wines of Australian Heritage. Once he hits a 90 on an Australian wine I start discounting at least one point for every two points. However to me he seems to be reasonably calibrated to other pros on other terroirs like French, Italian, and South African wines when I see his ratings.Enjoy Life; Wine makes it easier!
11/6/19, 6:55 AM - After my last bottle I expect I over rated this first bottle
9/20/19, 12:41 PM - See my recent tasting notes. A nice wine as it is, but it is still hiding what it can be. I hope you haven't had many of you case yet.
1/1/16, 8:29 PM - Babylon Translation:Still, the smell is subtle feeling of Fruit Fragrance hard, but was pale, his arms strut is reddish black color in a closed tight, but at the same time, the mouth full of late not read the long lasting, such as when he chewed pinching. A long time after 2012 fallow of Thought
5/12/15, 8:24 PM - Google Translate:So unbelievably good, but also in some ways atypical nordrhonare . The color is quite light and slightly transparent , the scent is almost a little portugal funky although one can find Syrah pepper too. The wine feels incredibly sophisticated, both in the fruit , the ease but also in the amazing oak. an --------
5/12/15, 8:41 AM - Translate translation:It seemed moderately ripe ...Neck Wrap is also good and proper concentration. And sweet-smelling floral scents are coming up ~ ~
7/25/14, 10:57 PM - On day 3 the wine was all fruit and alcohol just muddled together-- still drinkable but not a wine of any significant character..... rate an 80. All this put together leads me to say a bottle to buy and drink now and quickly once opened with no aeration or decanting
4/28/14, 3:31 PM - I can't resist! Seldom does it happen that a bottle doesn't get finished in my house! ;^) Happy tasting, Happy drinking, and Happy times!
3/31/14, 10:19 AM - I gave the bottle a second chance the next day and it was day 1 all over. I then opened a bottle of 2011 Bogle Petit Sirah to compare with it....not even a contest!. The Show Stopper was 1/3 the color intensity and acid and out of balance. I did still like the long finish but my original rating is right on for this bottle
5/16/24, 6:56 AM - This should not have had a numeric rating that counted--Should have been classified as flawed
11/24/13, 9:12 PM - Did you aerate your wine in this tasting? My bottles, while nice have not shown this well (See my last tasting note, in particular). I got the wine at a fantastic price because they had been stored several years upright in the liquor store so it may be a bit stressed, but this last bottle had strong signs the wine might benefit from aeration.
1/25/14, 1:29 PM - ARCH57 -- Just to compare see my recent tasting of this wine....I have another bottle which I hope is more like your recent tasting. I have recently intentional tasted several "Too old" Chards and have not found the success I was hoping for. I am looking forward to one which has been properly aged to reap those benefits you recently found
10/4/13, 9:22 PM - This is a PN not a cab franc but I agree can be a good hot tub wine
2/8/13, 2:10 PM - After writing this I looked at my 05/2012 review of the 2006. It looks like the 05 and 06 struck me almost identically...It looks like I am consistent if nothing else!
2/3/13, 10:15 PM - Eric: I read your review looking back at other vintages after I tasted the 2010. I would encourage you to never throw a bottle out like you say you did on this wine unless you are sure it is bad (i.e. Corked, Turned to vinegar) I think what you call strong window cleaner taste may be what I call a metallic taste. That metallic taste, I find, tends to be one that really masks the flavors that can be hidden in the wine. Two days sitting on the counter and the distracting taste was gone. I've recently run into a large number of wines that have improved significantly with simple sitting in a re-corked bottle over several days. I started doing this after reading "Love by the Glass" by Gaiter and Brecher and I think it has helped me educate my palate and figure out if some wines may need time to develop.Happy tasting! Life is too short to drink bad wine but don’t be afraid to taste a “bad” wine over time—It may be we just opened a great wine too early…You can always throw it out later!
