Two points higher than my 2017 rating. Still a little disappointed because there is little Chateauneuf distinction vs. Clos des Papes or Pegau. Would've rated it another two points higher if it did. It is delicious with beautiful fruit that is not over powering, and some secondary flavors starting to evolve. Seems like the Syrah component is stronger than usually found. Finish is long and strong. Its a very sexy wine but this bottle is not what I'd expect from CdP. Opened for two hours before starting to drink with a 2010 Vigna Paganelli, and a 2012 Keenan Reserve Cab. Thinking the fruit will start to recede as it continues to evolve and should go for another 5 years.

2/19/24, 7:07 AM - Hello afot. Thanks for commenting on my note. The e.g. (for example) should have been vs. (versus) in my comment…just fixed it. Was trying to point out the difference between this wine and the more traditional styles, which are my favorites like Clos des Pape, especially the 2007 which I own 1 more. Have never had the Hommage aJP but read that it phenomenal. And yes, the Syrah component seemed to be more dominant for me in this bottle. Had the pleasure to stay in CdP in 2017 for a few days and in late May, it was beautiful. I’m jealous you are so close and can visit for a long weekend. Finished the trip with a drive from CdP to Geneva through the Alps with lunch in Chamomix. A wonderful part of our small world.

Nice wine. Clear orchard fruit but no brioche or nuttiness I’d normally associate with aged champagne. Years to go.
  • BordeauxBoy commented:

12/24/23, 11:53 AM - For me, in well aged champagnes, the yeasty-ness turns more to a toasty-ness or brioche and for my palate, can be almost almond like sometimes. But everyone’s palate is different, right!

12/24/23, 2:45 PM - I see from your profile you are a Cimarossa fan. Me too. Not a lot of people know them. I own a bunch of bottles including the ‘14 Il Circolo. I haven’t opened any yet so do you own this wine and if so, have you tried it?

EVERYONE at the party loved it. Wine of the night. smooth, still plenty of fruit. completely drinkable now. two hour decant removed any hint of youth.

Good party wine. How did Erin Brooks of WA rate this a 95? Normally I like her ratings but this one just is not close...confusing.
  • BordeauxBoy commented:

6/15/23, 7:38 AM - Also wondering now about the 2019 Marietta Christo she rated 96 at the same time. Haven’t tried yet as her drinking range is 23-32 but will have to give one a try to see. Have y’all tried yet?

Brought to a party by a good friend. Simple and delicious. Very red and dark fruit forward so a bit of a steak pinot. Very soft so drink in next few years.
  • BordeauxBoy commented:

6/14/23, 6:58 PM - Yup, I opened and set it behind the other open bottles so it was probably 1/2 hour + before I went back and enjoyed a glass. Also, my tastes lie towards burgundies as well as being a Williams Selyem list member for probably 15 years. This like many good Cali-Pinots, for me anyway. Hope this give a little more perspective.

6/14/23, 7:04 PM - And after reading you profile, my wife and I are also big howell mountain fans. Cimmarosa was one of the most fun tastings we’ve ever done. Will carry with us when we vacation in Marco for a month each spring. Cheers

6/14/23, 9:17 PM - Looked at empty. It’s a Chapter III actually and probably should have been under Jean Noel Formeaux Pinot. Who are you that you care about this?

  • BordeauxBoy commented:

6/14/23, 9:30 PM - I was at the old Ch. Potelle on Mt. Veeder the last week they were open and the new tasting room on 29 a few years ago. A buddy of mine, the guy that brought the bottle, has traveled with the owner a couple of time, the latest to South Africa, this past Spring. They are making some good juice. :-)

6/14/23, 9:45 PM - My friends sure enjoyed this last trip and the Bordeaux trip as well. You probably met.

Maybe it’s bottle variation but this is nothing like the WA rating or description. Have loved other Beau Vigne vintages but this weak, watery and short. Drinking now and the bottle has been open for at least three hours. Probably should have rated lower but no bitterness, or hard edges so don’t think it’s maderized. Flawed?
  • BordeauxBoy commented:

6/10/23, 11:57 AM - Thanks Franken Berry. I did not know this. Have been enjoying BV wines for many years and been to their Yountville tasting room. Never have I seen the Signature Series Juliet nor does Cellar Tracker distinguish in their options or bottle photos to review separately. So you are saying BV is keeping the better juice secret and selling the lesser quality to the market for the rest of us? That would be more disappointing than a little bottle variation. Sad. Thanks

  • BordeauxBoy commented:

6/10/23, 1:24 PM - That is mid-leading but anyway, as much of a fan as I’ve been of BV, that bottle was not up to their usual standards and was disappointing as you can imagine.

Not ready yet. Drank from a 375 and it was still a big tannic dark fruit bomb. But the 14.95% (ha!) alcohol was well covered and there's enough acid to even this out over time. Will never be elegant but will someday be great with a big ribeye. Found both 375s and magnums on a deep sale and if looking for an everyday drinker in 5 years, this is a good QPR right now.
  • BordeauxBoy commented:

3/17/22, 5:46 AM - Thanks. Still cellaring mine and will for a few years yet. Probably will try the 375s again in 3 years.

Oh so young and Oh so great. You can drink 'em now buy why not wait until they get even better. 10-20 more years of life easy. No hiding this is a great Cali Cab that is very Insignia like. Great cassis flavors that are very fruit forward at the moment but the tannins are in the right place with little oak to get in the way of anything. Stunning bottle.
  • BordeauxBoy commented:

3/18/16, 1:45 AM - A friend just opened the '12 Realm Beckstoffer Dr. Crane last weekend and believe they are both great but different. The Realm was young too and think it will become more complex over time and in the end show more like a great left bank Saint Estephe Bordeaux ...whereas the Cliff Lede will probably stay big and be more fruit driven for a longer time. I think Parker is spot on with his ratings for each. Compared to the $400+ Realm, the CL is a bargain.
