12/28/16, 9:29 AM - Crank it!
12/13/16, 5:40 AM - How is it that the CT average score is 92.4, but you only give it a 70? I think you have a bad palet. Why are you so biased against Bordeaux wines? You only seem to give Riesling and Burgundy high ratings. I don't think you should score Bordeaux if you don't like it.
2/19/19, 6:18 PM - I have been subjected to Alban Reva before, and I agree with that note. Though I wonder if Mike errs on the side of generosity with his score. (Or maybe the 07 is less alcoholic than the 03, which was basically the wine equivalent of Homer Simpson's makeup shotgun)
9/29/22, 9:35 PM - Collect twelve Bernard Magrez signatures and you get a free sandwich.
11/16/16, 11:56 AM - wow. such bad palet.many extreme bias.
5/28/16, 8:07 AM - Robertgoulet: What DOESN'T go with barbecue?
3/27/23, 6:06 PM - your bad palet is getting better.
11/7/14, 9:17 PM - Applause for the Blackadder reference.
10/30/15, 3:27 PM - I, too, would like to know how you scored each point category for this wine. Was the amount of oak not sufficient? Was it of inadequate quality? Were the grapes not ripe enough for a proper "tour de force" of winemaking?
2/21/16, 10:25 PM - I'm bringing another bottle (from the same batch) to Chicago in April.
6/7/16, 12:47 PM - ?
6/5/16, 8:00 AM - Had a bottle of this just a couple of weeks ago and I agree. A friend (indiscriminate palate on CT) and I opened this and the '04 together, and the '04 came across more ripe/heavy, in contrast to the stereotype. The '03 Pontet is awesome. I'm definitely feeling a lot more optimistic about the ability of the more classical 03s to age.(BTW - any notes coming from Grand Sich?)
12/1/21, 10:49 AM - I love both this note and story. And yes, Jay is insanely generous.
12/5/17, 3:58 AM - Jeez, don't encourage him.
6/15/15, 10:43 AM - I need to explore these wines a bit more. The de Ganuza wines sound remarkable, and right up my alley.Didn't realize you were in CT, btw. Shoot me an email - salilinct at gmail.com.
3/10/17, 2:31 PM - Interesting that this is showing so well right now. My last bottle a couple of years ago was kinda closed. Any idea how much air this saw?
12/5/15, 5:23 PM - "If you hate very oaky wines, then stop drinking them"I agree. And this is the value of many of acyso's notes. I know Cos went from making good Bordeaux once to making modernized, oaky spoof today, but if it weren't for acyso, I wouldn't have realized that the 2005 might be an over-extracted monster rather than the elegant wines that the '88 or '86 were. So at least I know better than to buy and drink this dreck, thanks to the work done by the A.So Science Foundation.
9/18/16, 8:33 AM - You shut your mouth about Helmut-era Donnhoff, before I smack you...
9/18/16, 8:14 AM - 96 at Catoir, JJC, and Prum are awesome, no doubt. But those producers tend to kill it in any/all vintages. (And I enjoy 98/01/94 at those addresses a bit more than 96.)Most other producers' 96s have been pretty hit and miss. I've been underwhelmed by Schaefer and Donnhoff in particular.
9/12/16, 6:10 AM - Had the 2007 some years ago. One of the worst wines I have ever had in my life.
3/29/16, 8:39 PM - "pineapple Gummibärchen" is now my new favorite descriptor.
11/25/19, 5:50 AM - It'll hold a while longer, but right now I can't see it getting significantly better. But I also love my Dönnhoff Auslese in this stage when there's some development but the fruit is still very fresh and youthful. If you like slightly more mature/burnished flavours, then definitely hold a bit longer. But I'll probably pull my last bottle in the next couple of years.
9/9/18, 8:07 AM - Woo hoo! I'll try to make it happen this fall.
9/6/16, 9:17 AM - I agree with Seth (god I hate writing that). Don't think there's an awkward time, either bottle or palate preference.
6/2/16, 8:16 PM - ?
5/20/16, 5:20 AM - I was just served the Cuvee W (also 95) blind a few nights ago. Very similar impressions in terms of the heaviness and alcohol. At this point, I'm coming to realize the wines are more interesting than they are pleasurable.
5/17/16, 7:31 AM - Interesting - do you know what the liner is on the screwcaps? Are those Stelvins? As much as I love Aussie cabs, the classics are no longer a value proposition. I used to buy wines like this or Wynn's John Riddoch to scratch my Cab itch - now I'm just going back to Bordeaux.
5/17/16, 5:58 AM - Such a great wine. Shame about current pricing.
3/19/16, 9:29 PM - Very useful note, as I have two in the wine fridge, but I'll probably send at least one (if not both) into storage after reading this.
2/21/16, 4:18 PM - Agree with the comments about the acidity and secondary character, but the bottle I recently opened had plenty of fruit to spare. (That was from the stash you and I hit at HDH recently.) I'll pin it down to the nature of how these wines can show in big tasting formats.
2/12/16, 4:34 PM - Appreciate the note - HDH just got a few of these in, but sounds like it wouldn't be my style.
1/7/16, 3:04 AM - Appreciate the note - I was thinking of opening my one bottle this winter, but apparently patience seems like a better idea.
11/21/15, 4:20 AM - :(
11/7/15, 4:28 PM - I'm always a big fan of the Rayas Cuvee Syrah (minus the price), but wouldn't have imagined it to be this good in such a weak year. Eh, producer over vintage, right? (Plus it's Rayas, so...)
5/8/15, 3:41 AM - I've liked pretty much every vintage I've tried - particular standouts include '59, '82, '85, '88, '89, and '95. The 1983 is the only one I haven't been excited by.
6/1/14, 6:12 PM - I'd drink now, though I imagine it'll certainly hold for a few more years. I don't see it getting any better.
5/3/16, 9:31 PM - That was quick.
3/10/16, 4:18 AM - Many things are offputting to those more accustomed to CA jam. Apparently even trigger warnings don't seem to help there.I've got a few of these in storage. Do you reckon it's worth pulling one to drink soon, or just better to leave them alone a while longer?
5/20/16, 5:22 AM - Cheap graffiti on a building? This sounds very different from all the other bottles people are commenting on with mostly 90+ scores. Are you sure this wasn't an off bottle? Or are you unable to tell the difference between a Van Gogh and graffiti?
5/22/16, 5:27 AM - Dbrane: I'd hold for a few more years. Though if you have several, definitely worth popping one now as it's awesome (though I imagine will certainly hold a while).
3/10/16, 3:47 AM - funny you say that... Brad Kane poured the 1990 of this blind a couple of weeks ago. I (and quite a few others) were thinking Bordeaux or Rioja.
6/4/16, 5:05 AM - I don't expect any of the '11s to really be acid driven, though I imagine they'll be drinking really well in a long time once they lose more of the baby fat. Though all of mine are buried in storage.
2/7/16, 7:02 AM - :(
9/1/16, 11:03 AM - You need to try this with some fried chicken.
1/28/16, 12:40 PM - This note just makes me sad. The old Pape Clements could be amazing, back before the oak-juice era.
1/23/16, 8:50 AM - "All of the wooly waxiness of Chinon with none of the joy."This sums up almost every Savennieres I've had.
1/15/16, 3:17 PM - Popped a couple of these in the fall that were really nice. Thanks again for the heads up.
10/5/16, 5:29 AM - The Acker tasting: I came, I saw, I dumped.
12/5/15, 5:14 PM - seeing as you didn't remember this, you should try it again.
1/22/17, 8:46 AM - I'm not wrong, I'm presenting alternative facts.
2/5/17, 6:32 AM - Zak and Salil have good palets.Seth has a bad palet.
10/11/15, 8:27 PM - Yes, you should consider removing your note or increasing your score. Don't penalize it just because it's an over-oaked, spoofy attempt to make Californian Pinot Noir in Bordeaux. You really should be more open minded. Mr. So.
4/14/17, 8:15 PM - "I was behind everyone else"Are we still doing phrasing?
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
