April 14, 2023 - St. Emilion night (Chicago, IL): Again a wine that drinks a little too old for me. An earthy, almost left-bank-like nose, with lots of pencil shaving notes as well. Old school with some rustic textures and flavours on the nose and palate. The fruit on the midpalate is hollowing out; can't help but think this isn't a perfect bottle of this wine and that there's more upside with other bottles.

February 1, 2023 - An absolute superlative wine that was enjoyed without decanting, and burst into life after a few minutes in the glass. Full of soft dark fruit, this was displaying full secondary and tertiary notes, and this bottle still had the potential to keep performing for another couple of decades.

January 29, 2023 - This is absolutely everything I look for in aged right-bank Bordeaux. Deep, sweet fruit, savory tertiary notes of leather and earth, with just a hint of structure remaining. Suave and supple and still plenty vibrant. A dream.

October 16, 2022 - A Belated 52nd Birthday Celebration (Alisal Guest Ranch, Solvang, CA): The bottle was in pristine form, and the wine had plenty of life, with gentle cedar and potpourri notes alongside soft red fruit, but the slightest of cork taints could not be overcome for me.

December 24, 2021 - Opened but not decanted about 30 min before drinking. Cork soaked all the way up but came out intact with a Durand. Had stood up in the cellar 3 weeks before opening.
Color was dark and did not give away the 50+ years of age on this bottle. Beautiful nose a mixture of fruit and savory and maybe beef jerky. A surprising amount of berry fruit on that palate and a long finish. Went well with lamb and was loved by all at the table as the favorite (against a ‘98 Musar and ‘06 Dominus)
