Wine advocate was incorrect. Way too early to drink, hence I’m withholding a score (because I’m just not good enough to assess immature wine).

11/29/21, 6:43 PM - Thanks for the heads up. Those professional scores will likely prove to conservative. I do think they got the drinking window completely so wrong. It’s infanticide to open these bottles so young.

Wow, WA and WS scored it 88 and 84 respectively 5+ yrs ago. I dont know if it's stylistic differences or age has dramatically improved this wine but, if you like rustic tempranillo, this offers a great value. Fairly muted nose of blackberries and red currants, muted flavor but great mouthfeel, fullbodied with a strong finish. I'll wait another 2 yrs for my other bottle to see if the fruit can last.

Muted Leather nose. So flat on the palate. I'm not sure whether there's enough to this wine to evolve further but it's disappointing right now. A little acidity very low tannin. Try in 2021?
Coravin so I'll try in a month.

12/11/18, 1:33 PM - In addition to TCWC.com and HDHWine.com, add FlickingerWine.com. Their pricing has inflated since our legislature made it very difficult to ship with to IL but still great Midwest options.

2007 E. Guigal Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend
I had been holding off on my review, but I just finished the last of 6 bottles (drank over the past 6 months or so) and feel that I've given this wine every opportunity to show itself, but it just didn't do so. The fruit is so very restrained that I found myself desperately trying to coax it out. Funky "barnyard" nose that never really blows off. I have gone through probably a dozen similarly-priced 2007 CDPs, Gigondas's and Vacqueras's in my cellar and this one's definitely at the bottom of the list. How disappointing given the rave reviews of others!

9/29/15, 2:06 PM - Barnyard is what I love about the wine. For how long prior did you decant it?

good maturation over the past year. I will hold the rest for a while. Haven't had much aged zin and this clearly has the structure for it. built well

not great; very tight still. give it time and hopefully the fruit will still be there

6/11/14, 8:19 PM - boy did I miss this one. I purchased a half case (great deal) and wasn't really liking it until this bottle. It's finally approaching its peak. Many years left. structured, complex, and an impressive finish. it's been great to see this evolve -- the fruit has become much more dominant now that the tannins have mellowed.
