Bottle was corked, mildly so, but enough to ruin the bottle. What a disappointment! -- Great customer service from them as usual, thanks Chris.

Wine #2 at New Years, followed a 2006 La Violette. This is a terrific wine. On the nose I get dark cherry, mocha, a hint of vanilla and some spice. Deep and rich and forward on the palate with chocolate/cherry and spice but plenty of structure to follow through. Nice, long finish. This is universally enjoyed. And at the price, it would be hard to do better. This might even get better 96+

1/3/17, 2:45 PM - I got this wine though the Hidden Ridge wine club. The fall offering was 3 bottles of the 2013 55% slope and 1 bottle of the 2012 Impassable Reserve.

Popped and poured. This is a deep golden colored wine with a nose of marmalade and flowers. In the mouth, it is very rich, with an extremely thick texture and an impression of some oxidative aspects. The finish is lingering but slightly hot (likely due to the 15% (!) alcohol in the wine). Overall, this was a unique and interesting wine. It seemed a bit too loaded, and I’m not sure this style of white is for me (I have a few younger Hermitage blancs I’ll need to try soon), particularly for the price. I’m not ascribing a score due to the lack of perspective on how these should perform.

Popped and poured. This is a medium red wine with no signs of aging, although there was some moderate sediment at the end of the bottle that would weigh in favor of decanting. On the nose, I got some nice herbs, pepper, and cherry. The mouth had medium levels of fruit, but left a slightly astringent impression. This wine is much better on the nose than on the palate. Overall, this was enjoyable but not exceptional in any respect – it’s time to drink these up. 90 points.

Popped and poured with friends. This is a very full bodied pinot with beautiful fruit and an amazingly long finish. It came off really as a hybrid of a French and New World pinot in that it had unmistakable California fruit but also a nice dose of that French earthiness. I think the critics got it right on this one. A top notice pinot deserving of the praise lavished on it. 96+
