This Plavac Mali is drinking well now. With the lower alcohol content of 13.5% and a couple more years in bottle, this vintage is more approachable than the 2016, which shows promise, but whose tannins are still untamed.

Bright, youthful light ruby color. On first taste after opening, an intense nose of forest fruits, rose petals and sour cherry. Flavors start with red currants and plum, pass through gentle salinity to a Verduno pepperiness on the tongue. Nice (and still a bit untamed) tannins contribute make this a mouth-pleaser. Wow, a really intriguing wine, that I look forward to sampling over the years.

Opened a few hours ahead. Beautifully balanced. Beef broth and root vegtables on the nose, massive notes of celery, root vegtables and tobacco, with an elegant, refined finish and relaxed tannins. Ready to drink now.
