think this has 1-2 points of upside with some more age... if I can I'll try to drink most of my remaining ten btls in the 2030's or even 40's... decanted this about three hours before dinner, then drank over two hours while eating, on pnp it was dark brooding and with a true sense of oak on the palate, and a big nose for sure, with air (I wish I had given in more, will try for 6-7 hours next time) it softened a bit frankly and was elegant but a little mellow in terms of the flavors... maybe in a tiny bit of closed down state??

Well not all is lost after all, you have another 10 bottles to follow it's evolution which is great ;-)

Third time I’ve had this….and I’d say the least good. Usually fantastic and excellent value…this time tightly wound, even after 3hrs air.

3/10/24, 12:29 PM - Still think these bottles are better after 15 years of age...
If still tight after 3 hours it definitely needed more time in the cellar.

Possibly going through a “dumb phase”. Poured into a decanter and after an hour or so, the nose showed the faintest hint of Nebbiolo markers, I.e roses, tar, etc. nothing wrong on the palate, but nothing terribly exciting either. Tannins are softened and the acidity is w touch less prominent than I would expect. I don’t have any more but if I did, I wouldn’t know to drink or hold

12/28/23, 4:46 AM - This probably needed more like 12 hours in a decanter to show itself.

Short decant and into the glass.

Brickish color. On the nose dusty leather, oak and tobacco. Initial sips yielded pencil shavings, toasted oak and subdued vanilla. Tertiary notes of balsamic, black pepper and smoke. Decent finish.

Med bodied, bone dry, smooth and still had some acidity. Though much of the fruit had fallen away, this had depth.

Great age on this one and it is likely at the tail end of its drinking window. For the price, this is unbeatable as an aged Rioja. Paired with pizza and will sip again.

9/17/23, 12:42 PM - You could of let it breathe longer, i noticed it profited from a 4 hour decant 2 weeks ago. I think this will easily go another 5 years if not more, lovely expression of the tempranillo grape for the price.

Nez pétrolé, Fruits absents, un vin axé sur la mineralité, vraiment sans intérêt et décevant

Excellent wine that is just a baby at six years old. Light golden color. Melon and yellow fruit - good depth - also some youthful grassiness. A little bit of soap. Big palate - coiled. This is absolutely serious. Good now but will be better in 2026. Much better than the 2014. (92+)

8/26/23, 11:24 AM - Agree with you on that one, needs another 8 years to come around in my book.
You just feel the restraint in this wine. Once it blooms it should be lovely.

A lot of chat on CT about bottle variation but three dodgy ones in a row tells a different story to me. Tastes tired and lifeless. Lacks any vibrancy, fruit or freshness. Over the hill - ignore the drinking window and definitely don't wait until 2040!
  • Nick72wine commented:

6/1/23, 6:17 PM - Sorry for your bad bottles but my 2 last bottles were in super shape...odd, 2040 is far à little but now to 2030 is pretty much at peak for this.

  • Nick72wine commented:

6/2/23, 3:38 AM - Really hope your last one will be spot on ...these are lovely wines when they are in tip top shape. Cheers.

Knights of Alba (KOA) NY Intronization - May 2023 (NY Private Club): Darker fruits, more tannins, very young even though it’s got 10 years. Very brooding in style. More drying tannin. It had been opened earlier in the night and evolved a bit in the glass but for me was in perhaps a bit of a quiet phase at the moment. Not quite the young fruit forward style but nor yet having the time to have really matured into some of the secondary.
