Don’t get the hype.

4/19/24, 2:48 PM - It's the 19s that really went off on fire...like a completely different cuvee. 18s probably overvalued on market

I recently had the opportunity to taste the 2000 vintage of Harlan Estate, and it was a truly magnificent wine. The deep, ruby red color was mesmerizing, and the aromas that wafted from the glass were absolutely enchanting. I detected notes of black currant, blackberry, and vanilla, with hints of cedar and leather. I waited 22 years to taste this bitch.

Upon tasting, I was struck by the wine's remarkable complexity. The flavors were layered and intense, with a beautiful balance between fruit, oak, and tannins. I tasted dark fruit flavors like black cherry, blackberry, and cassis, alongside a subtle earthiness and a hint of chocolate. The tannins were firm but velvety, and the wine had a full-bodied, luscious mouthfeel.

The finish was incredibly long, with flavors that lingered on the palate for what felt like minutes. I tasted more dark fruit and a touch of espresso, with a subtle hint of tobacco. Overall, the Harlan Estate 2000 was a truly exceptional wine that left a lasting impression. It would be a wonderful addition to any collector's cellar and a fantastic choice for a special occasion.

@ Nubiani NYC. Man did this suck. Smells like a port-a-potty by the ocean, lots of poopy salinity. The offputting nose did fade a bit with air but the fruit was almost completely gone in an hour leaving a dry and boring mouth taste. Went down like a rusty shopping cart down the subway stairs. Don't think this was a flawed bottle given good fill and decent cork - so just assuming this is a bottling to completely avoid going forward.

5/10/23, 2:20 PM - Gave it 3+ and it got worse, anymore and it would’ve become horseshit

@ Noreetuh NYC. Haunting earthy nose that can only come from truly hallowed terroirs. Bright cherries on the palate, echoing finish. Soulful and a thinker’s wine.

1/26/23, 5:03 AM - Opened for an hour and followed over 2 - don't think it needs a decant, just needs time to evolve in glass.

At Sotheby’s UGC 2019 vintage tasting at Cipriani NYC Midtown. Out of the 50+ wines I sampled this was WOTN. Immediately stood out with its aromatic nose, immense, brooding structure, loads of concentrated dark berries, encased in a velvety mouthfeel. 30-45 second finish. Tremendous young and has the stuff to go 2 decades here. Buyer.

7/1/22, 6:54 AM - A great investment indeed (I picked up mostly Pauillacs at en primeur mid-COVID, Lafite for $425 etc. so missed this one but will look to buy bargains). Any experience with past highlight vintages like 2005? Worth buying at auction?

7/9/22, 7:54 AM - PLL was definitely another standout and clearly above Baron which was more diluted. Lynch-Bages was still the top Pauillac of the tasting for me though!

At Pappa’s Houston Downtown. First off, amazingly beautiful label. Big bold but smooth, this throws off bunches of dark berries and rich vanilla, with an impeccably smooth finish that really rounded this out for me. More than held it’s weight against medium-rare rib-eye. A masterpiece.

3/29/22, 11:55 AM - We decanted for a brief 30 mins and followed over an hour, I thought it was basically ready to go after the initial decant.

at Hawksmoor NYC. WOTN. Initial notes were meaty, bacon-like, lots of herbs de provence, peppery, easily mistaken for Old World northern Rhone. As the night went on it evolved to become more silky, hedonistic, polished, and integrated. Like drinking Wagyu in liquid form. This is in its peak drinking window and a delight to track over 3 hours of evolution. World-class.

POP, pale straw color, crisp and delineated and easily punches at the village level. Acidity was a perfect balance with a rich miso cod and ginger scallion lobster combo. One of the best QPRs out there in white burgs.
