This bottle had a lot more of an herbal and funky quality than the last one. Not as enjoyable to drink.

At this point, the 1997 Limerick Lane zin fits into the category of Aged wine. I would not have recognized it as a zinfandel if I had drunk it blind. That said, it does not taste "over the hill". Rather, the notes were very much those of a complex, mature wine. We drank it over two nights, and the bottle received high praise during both dinners. Have a decanter handy, as the cork is very easy to break.

MUCH better on Night 2 than on Night 1. It clearly requires some time to open up, but it was worth the wait.

Brought by Mick to the Cookie Party. There are undoubtedly better pairings, but it still tasted great.

Fantastic zin. Smooth yet brambly with medium red fruit and coffee notes.

Great improvement from Night 1 to Night 3. It needed that time to open up fully, but when it did, it was incredibly rich and almost sweet.

An elegant wine, but it had none of the zin qualities that I look for. No spice, no bramble, no fruit burst. I have had Turleys with zin grapes sourced from Grist Vineyard, and the difference between the Turley Grist Zin and the Jewell Grist Zin is like night and day. That said, the Jewell was light bodied and firm, pairing very well with my curried chickpea soup.

Interesting wine. Bit of funk to the nose. Tannic mouthfeel with tart sour cherry notes. Tasted at Merkin Vineyards in Old Town Scottsdale.

Tasted at the Old Town Scottsdale winery. Floral nose with some cherry underpinnings. Medium dark fruit in the mouth. Palate is quite soft.

It tasted like a high end bottle of supermarket cab. Cab notes were there, but they were interspersed with a level of processing which I associate with wines that I buy at the grocery store.

Had with Thanksgiving dinner. I gave it several hours to open up, which really helped bring out the blueberry fruit. Excellent wine. I'm glad I cellared it for the past two decades.

The cork broke upon opening, so I had to filter pour it into my decanter (which I probably would have done anyway). It was absolutely amazing on Night 1, literally making me sit up and take notice. It settled into routinely excellent on Nights 2 through 5. I regret buying only one bottle.

I'm afraid that this tasted over the hill, although it did show some signs of life after 30 minutes in the glass.

A dirty chardonnay, and I mean that in the best of ways. Lots of grit and earth, interspersed with sweet, sweet fruit. Delicious!

Rather tight and acidic on Day 1, but really opened up on Day 2. I wish I had left more in the bottle for the second day.

Enjoyed with the tasting menu at Angler in SF. Excellent rendition of a California cab franc, absolutely in its prime. Everyone at the table raved about it.

Drank this over three nights. It opened up more and more each night. Dark cocoa notes predominated on Night 1, but by Night 3, it was a beautiful medley of warm and rich flavors. This wine will take as much of a decant as you can stand to give it.

There is no mistaking that this is a mature bottle of wine. The notes are consistent with that palate. Very tasty.

An extremely tasty fruit-forward Malbec. Sure, the wine label is rather tongue-in-cheek, but it belies the quality that is in the bottle. A very worthy pop and pour.
