12/7/23, 7:57 AM - If in doubt, open both: They taste so good and would disappear fast. DP 2008 is definitely better than CdC BdB 2011.
12/8/23, 9:02 AM - Agreed. DP2008 is for very special occasion as it would age very well for decades. Whereas for me, the CdC BdB 2011 is for any special occasion, including a fabricated one, because I got them at steep discounts, thanks to all the negative reviews out there. That is why I commented that if one is willing to open the DP2008, then the occasion must be very special and should not hold back to open the lesser CdC BdB 2011.
11/15/23, 12:03 AM - Yes, starting with 2019 vintage, all Domaine Heitz-Lochardet wines are labeled as Armand Heitz. Thanks to Armand Rousseau and Comte Armand, "Armand Heitz" is much more marketable to an international audience than Heitz-Lochardet.
10/16/23, 9:26 AM - Thanks. Ironically, I am able to get steep discounts on the 2011 CdC BdB due to the bad reviews. 2011 has become a bargain vintage. LOL
10/9/23, 12:56 PM - Do you think you have a flawed bottle on the 2011?I had a 2008 CdC BdB previously with the exact tasting notes as your 2011. I knew it was flawed because I had drunken many bottles of 2008 around same time period.
10/9/23, 1:10 PM - I see. Maybe that explained why the 2011 vintage is selling much cheaper than the other vintages. I will get a bottle of 2011 in the near future, and report back, in case the Sommelier's entire lot of 2011 was flawed or spoiled.
10/15/23, 11:02 AM - I bought a bottle of 2011 from local wine shop, and tried it last night. It was actually pretty good. Not as much depth and length as 2008, but would hold up to be a Comtes de Champagne IMHO. Nothing green, herbaceous, or astringent at all.
10/15/23, 9:35 AM - Thank you for your confirmation. I shall do the same, not touching my remaining 15s for at least 1 year.
8/28/23, 1:23 PM - Hi Lord of the Bottles, Hugel's Schoelhammer and Trimbach's Clos St. Hune are very different wine. Both Riesling, but different style. Different vintages would also taste differently. Since I have not done direct comparison, I would not be able to be specific. For example, I just drank a 2000 Clos St. Hune last Thursday. I wrote down some tasting notes. That was quite powerful and complex. My recollection of Schoelhammer was sharper and racier, but that was due to younger vintage of Schoelhammer that I drank. If you are interested, I would recommend you to find a few friends and get a bottle of each from the same vintage and do a comparison.
7/27/23, 9:57 PM - You are very welcome. Yes, Keller is a world class winery, and their wines are made to keep. Specifically this bottle was fresh and youthful, and had a lot of fruits and acidity. It would easily last another 15 years, so long as cellar conditions are good. I would probably drink this young, and cellar their GGs for the longer term.
7/29/23, 12:32 AM - Hi IlliniWine, very lucky that you have so many bottles. Keller's bottles, GG or not, are usually by allocations.I just opened another 2020 von der Fels for breakfast. This time, the wine was even better, probably because I had a fresh palate myself. As a result, I have upgraded the scores I provided earlier in order to be fair to the wine.I have separately wrote a tasting story here on a range of Keller GGs last April 2023. It was an unforgettable experience.
8/3/23, 1:57 AM - Hi IlliniWine, I wrote it in the "Tasting Story" section. I will get in touch with CT to find out more. Maybe I need to publish it, which I haven't done it yet.
7/20/23, 2:37 AM - Thank you for your kind words. This Alsatian Riesling has residual sugar, but the high acidity balanced the sweetness perfectly. It didn't feel sticky at all.
5/26/23, 7:20 PM - I wondered if you had a flawed bottle. Some of your comments (apple, brioche, camomile) were spot on, but some of them (low acidity, short aftertaste) suggested to me that you might have had an off bottle.
5/10/23, 12:17 PM - 2015 might have been too early for this bottle (or any Grand Cru's in 2012) to show its promise.
2/15/23, 9:46 PM - Hi Sheriff,Yes, I do think so. 2008 is a superlative vintage in Champagne. Just check here the recent tasting notes of earlier notable vintages. They would give you a peek review of how 2008 would become in the future.
12/31/22, 11:03 PM - Hi Palisades57,Thank you for your comment. Yes, we did decant the 2014 Dauvissat for hours. We drank it during lunch at a restaurant and so couldn't save any for next day. I still have another bottle which I will cellar for some time before trying it again.
10/28/21, 9:34 PM - I share your sentiment.
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
