Community Tasting Notes 9

July 30, 2021 - second older wine of the week.

Mold on the cork under the foil. Cork was solid though. Typical in my experience with older Rieslings.

    Golden/yellow in color.

Nose has a strong petrol element, sweet honey notes, really nice and promises much.

Palate starts sweet but transitions to nice acidity and a long, clean finish.

Paired with good Thai food and it worked well.

    Would buy again

March 21, 2021 - AP 02 04. Second bottle from a full case purchased in 2008. Cork showed slight signs of seepage, level 2cm below the cork. Last tasted in 2014, when it was in a difficult stage. On opening it was quite monolithic, so I decided to decant. I don't think it will ever be the most elegant, playful or intricate of JJ Prüm's Auslesen, but the cassis, pear and peach aromas on the nose are absolutely classical, and the palate is firm, with racy acidity. The finish seems one-dimensional. Very good rather than great. Perhaps not a perfect bottle? However this may be, stamina is not the issue here: it will probably continue to improve for at least another decade and last much longer after that.

January 16, 2016 - Appeared a bit simple and not really extraordinary at all. Fine and rather simple. Not more ...

July 12, 2014 - Distinctly ill at ease immediately after opening. Much improved on day two, even if there remains a slightly worrying bitterness on the finish. Lovely typicity and balance, good peachy fruit, perfectly fresh, relatively light structure but the balance is impeccable. A wine of considerable finesse in the typically restrained JJ style, but without the ultimate cut and precision of the very best. Will age effortlessly; drink now - 2032.

March 20, 2014 - Top 100 Farewell Dinner 2014 (Rodwell House): (Tasted Blind): Light to mid-yellow with golden edges signifying some age. A complex nose shows sweet almond paste, shortbread, satsuma peel, lemon blossom (touch kerosene), and botrytis. Classic Mosel Riesling Auslese, there is an array of sweet and ripe aromas, rich texture, well-integrated RS and botrytis complexity. The acid is vibrant and, again a linear, elegant shape. Fairly long but not as deep as expected nor as complex or dynamic.
