Community Tasting Notes 10

December 27, 2014 - Really dissappointed in this one. From the notes I thought it would be ready but it's almost as if there is something off on this bottle. Way to much acid in the wine and I kind of want to say it feels like a spritz to it but not sure. There is some fruits but they are muddled by all the acid. Dissappointing

August 10, 2014 - Blueberry, Blackberry and licorice on the nose. Great acid, pure flavors of Blueberry and a bit of tobacco on the palate, medium bodied. No rush to drink but in a good place. 91 points

June 20, 2014 - Red and black fruit on the nose and palate. Fruit somewhat more restrained than younger Tensley's, but supported by typical Syrah spice.

March 30, 2014 - At this point, I can tell a Tensley wine blind. Blackberry jam and floral notes on the nose, and blackberry, blueberry, and sweet spice when tasted. Electric acidity and energy run through Joey Tensley's wine - making this a fun fruit bomb. Not as diverse on the flavor profile as some other wine produced by Tensley, or this would rate higher.

December 22, 2013 - The initial aroma had strong beef-like notes and a quick sip has a cough syrup like note. This turned out to be pretty deceptive. After about a half hour or so, it all calmed down. The result was a dense fruit forward wine with strong raspberry notes that were balanced by a high end, sharp acidic note along with low end notes of tobacco and maybe a little tar. It is a big bombastic wine but, within the style, it has a relative sense of balance. With the concentration that this wine has, I will be very curious to see when this makes a downhill slide. For a California syrah, this could be very long lived. The use of neutral oak serves this wine very well as it is a pure expression of the fruit and vineyard. The price on the Tensley wines remains a big factor. The quality of this wine relative to most $35 cabs or pinots shows a pretty staggering gap. Cudos to producers with a long term vision as it pertains to pricing and loyalty to their customers.
