June 1, 2022 - Nice enough, but showing a bit tired tonight.

August 4, 2020 - The last of three bottle bought on release in 1985. This was one of Bernard Faurie's first efforts at Hermitage. I suspect, but do not know, that this is the same wine as that bottled under the names of his father and uncle (Pierre Faurie and Jean Bouzige), as the Hermitage holdings for all three at the time was a mere 0.56 ha. The first two bottles were very tannic when drunk (the more recent bottle was probably drunk 20-25 years ago), but now the tannins have resolved. The wine is still quite dark with quite a bit of red in the color. Musky, smoky aromas and flavors with some cocoa overtones quite a bit of power, intensity, and depth -- this is the old style Hermitage one used to read about in the books. Bernard is now, IMO, the best producer at Hermitage (with a different style and more land), but back then there were still Chave and Jaboulet who dominated, and maybe Henri Sorel (I've never had a Sorel of this era); nevertheless, a superb effort.
