Community Tasting Notes 5

April 17, 2018 - Very deep gold/amber/honey color which was more reminiscent of beer. The nose reminded me of the few old Sauternes I have had...butterscotch, toasted marshmallow, vanilla bean, clover honey with a little apricot and red skinned Apple. This wine was drunk over two hours with the last glass showing more "sweet" on the nose. A surprising amount of acidity pierced through the pallet which showed golden fruits, pear and apple to go along with burnt sugar, and honey toasted almond. I will refrain from scoring, as this was clearly not how this wine was intended to be enjoyed; however, this wine was still very much enjoyable and a testiment to the quality of the wine to withstand 20 years. Well done.

January 5, 2014 - Just by the color, you know this wine has some serious age. Interesting nose, and I'm not exactly sure what I am getting besides apple and caramel, but there are other nuances. The palate is textured with apple skin and citrus turning sweet with butterscotch notes at the end, but it is not cloying. Very bright acidity keeps it alive, and not tired at all. A pleasant surprise.

March 4, 2010 - Good notes below, I got a "cool ranch dorito" nose on this one - a bit of corn, a bit of sour cream - then some mango-tropical fruit notes as well. Yes, a bit oxidized at this age.

March 4, 2010 - Still hanging on, though starting to show somehwat oxidized, caramelized sweetness on the palate. Great nose, but fades a bit from there. Totally enjoyable, but pales next to the '99 Jadot Charmes. Drink now.

December 1, 2007 - A very interesting drinking experience. Found this for cheap at a local store and figured I would give it a whirl, bad vintage and all.

The color is caramel colored -- looks oxidized. Cork falls apart as I open it. At this point it was not looking good but this wine was going to suprise.

At first the nose was very muted. very alcoholic. Swirled it around a bit and aromas of buttered popcorn and light toasty oak jump from the glass. Not too much fruit left at this point, but as long as I kept it coool (around 62 degrees or so) this wine was vert unique and enjoyable. As it warmed up it became too flabby and alcoholic. Nonetheless a very enjoyable bottle and it was drank quickly.
