Community Tasting Notes 1

March 1, 2007 - Pale yellow. Aroma of pear, orange, crushed stone, and a touch of honey. On the palate the wine is so powerful, with a oh-so refreshing acidity, which was unexpectedly as this was my first time to taste Spaetlese German wine not from Southern region as a dry version. Long finish. Very nice compliment to the Thai dinner we had. And of course, the bottle was drunk up real fast.

(Donnhoff Schlossbockelheimer Felsenberg Spatlese Trocken) As I slowly go through my stash of '01 and '02 Donnhoff Trockens I get sad as these are impossible to get and I don't have many left. The wines are stunning if you like dry wines and I do! Nose of peach, cassis, some slate and other various minerals. Even some ripe melons after a while. Very soft nose yet layered and complex. Palate was pure Donnhoff elegance with the classic Donnhoff dissolve on the finish. Stunning purity and finesse as this has to be one of Donnhoff's most elegant wines. Great acidity that weaved in and out of the minerals and melon/stone fruits.
