May 14, 2021 - Dark berries, tobacco, pepper, spicy, concentrated and powerful, quite tannic, serious wine which could be left bank Medoc. Still young and will stay alive even in 20 years.

October 5, 2020 - I had high expectations and they were met. I rarely age Chinon for 11 years, but I was well rewarded for my patience. Many of you might laugh at me, but I would have bet my paycheck that this was from the Left Bank of Bordeaux, more specifically from Margaux. From the first nose, it reminded me the Palmer 2009 I had last year, with a little less concentration and definition (but keep in mind that I gave Palmer '09 98 points).

I truly don't understand the tasting notes below, reporting on green aromas...I got ZERO trace of pyrazines in this wine. The wine is developing nicely and still has the tannins, the acidity and the fruit to age more. Aromatically, it's a wonderful mix of primary, secondary and tertiary aromas of: cassis, pencil shaving, raspberries, notes of leather, hints of organic earth, sweet tobacco and cedar. Lovely! The finish could be a little longer to be over the 95-point mark. Enjoy now or cellar for another 3-5 years.

July 19, 2020 - Dark in color. On the nose dark fruits, cassis and stone fruit, salt cured olive, subtle bell pepper, with an initial hit of oak. It seems to show the warmth of the vintage. Opulent, full bodied, pretty polished and plush on the palate. The fruit is fleshy but not browning or muddled. There is plenty of structure, and the ripeness walks a half step over the edge of what I would like to drink. There is underlying acidity, but less freshness and lift than I would prefer. I am going to give this the benefit of the doubt for two reasons: First, I have little experience with this producer. Second, it seems to have enough stuffing and balance to eventually absorb the wood and become more interesting. For now it is pretty much in your face and lacks nuance. It would be a great ringer in a Napa floor blind Cabernet tasting. At the point, it is still very young for my palate. I am not sure if I drank this bottle 10 years too soon, or I bought and drank the wrong bottle. I am going to let my remaining bottle sit for at least a decade and cross my fingers. Judgement reserved.

April 27, 2020 - Another great bottle - third from my case. Dark red purple with very little sign of age. The nose is dark and serious - dark sweet fruits, leaf mold and charcoal. On the palate, rich and concentrated cassis and sour cherry fruit with great tannin and acid still. Smoldering. None of that typical cab franc leafiness I really don't like. Still young with years to go. Streets ahead of the rest of the range.
