Community Tasting Notes 6

November 13, 2022 - Brooding and rustic. Needs more time to resolve. Quite disjointed and firm.

November 7, 2021 - I'd be more positive about this than most of the notes. A very clean, elegant and balanced wine with a classical Pinot nose and more autumnal, subtle, fruit than I expected. Plenty of acidity but not for me shrill at all. A restrained wine for sure but in the right way for me.

June 7, 2020 - Like the ‘93 Les Mitans (see my previous tasting note), this bottle was tight and never really opened up - or maybe I just don’t get Montille. Tried a small glass upon opening and tried glasses over the next two hours - not much changed. There is definitely mineral and cleanliness to the wine, but it’s at the expense of anything that defines burgundy for me. Very little fruit or flowers or spices that drive some of the great crus. The wine feels like someone who simply won’t let you get to know them. Maybe this wine needs even more time to mature, but we could all be dead by then.

August 16, 2018 - The wines of the late Hubert de Montille, a hero in Mondovino, have a distinguished fan club but I have never really got on with them. If you admire classy but austere griotte cherry fruit, linear shape, laser like precision, diamond smooth texture, lively minerals and acidity together with snail paced maturing, this is a wine for you and you should join the fan club. If, however, you look for sensuous charm, complexity of flavour and velvety texture, go elsewhere. Youthful still with probably years ahead of it but I don't see its ever acquiring much charm. Just good for me.
