July 21, 2023 - Blind tasting. Opened around 6pm, recorked it until we were ready to drink at around 9pm. It was in perfect condition, even though owner claimed it was in the twilight stage of the bottle.

Brick red, orangey rim, medium brick red with some cloudiness. Very seductive nose. Fully matured with plethora of tertiary flavors: Game, truffles, nectar, farmyard, tobacco. The wine was constantly evolving.

Most thought it was a DRC from 1950s to 1971 due to the signature DRC nose. We were all surprised when the result was revealed.

The owner bought 3 cases many years ago, and almost drank them all up. He said a few years ago, the same bottle were more vibrant and more intense. The rest of us agreed that it was already marvelous.

Rudy K. claimed that there were lots of fake 1962 Leroy La Romanee when Leroy first released her 1962 bottles. He claimed that he and friends in New York bought 20 cases directly from winery. Of the 20 cases, only 5 cases were authentic, and the rest were Côte de Beaune-- How Ironic! He said this particular bottle was authentic, especially the mark "SRP" underneath the bottle, which was the bottle mark during that era.

It was such a treat to have tasted this magnificent wine, especially in a blind tasting. It came out top among 7 other bottles of the evening, including a 1961 La Mission Haut Brion, 1966 Chateau Latour, and a 1985 Gaja Sori San Lorenzo.

May 31, 2019 - CC. Consistent performer. Faded, browned color. Coffee aromatics and palate, yet retains a lot of fruit. Very pure, transparent wine.

Rockss and Fruit

(Leroy La Romanee) This was a beauty. A remarkable old wine that "youthed" up in the glass. Incredibly pure and seriously complex nose. Sous-bois, leaf, asian spices, melange of blueberry/ blackberry and tons of potpourri. Stellar nose that kept getting more and more complex as this "puppy" aired. Palate was incredibly silky and smooth but with aeration gained richness. Kept opening up with the wines structure becoming more prominent. The fruit was mature but still very fresh. Would have even opened up more I am assuming as the last sip stunned me. The wine just kept getting better. Drank it over an hour. Too bad as it was probably out of hand in hour three. Great wine and anybody who owns this should decant for at least an hour . . .
