February 20, 1991 - With K, Florence and Miranda at home at dinner (chicken and rice in mustard sauce). Light-medium ruby color. Good legs. Sleek, superripe cherry fruit, very forward and fruity. Volnay-like, enticing. Lots of great ripe fruit on the palate, light-medium body. Probably an "8" overall, but painkillers may be affecting my palate. 5-12-16-8: 91/100.

Next day: With Nancy, Andy, Levi and Miranda at home in the afternoon with cheese and crackers. Much the same notes as last night. Same score.

December 14, 1990 - With MPL and Marne at Singer & Foy. Light ruby. Nose is sexy, racy, round. Ripe raspberry fruit. On the palate, it is curranty, lovely, with elegant palate impression. Excellent wine. 5-12-17-8: 92/100.

December 9, 1990 - With K at home at dinner (Boboli pizza). Decent dark ruby color. Good legs. Looks deep and attractive and inviting. Very good black cherry fruit in the nose, with some vanillin also. Restrained and tasteful. Bing cherry flavor is generous, rich and forward. Round, ripe and stylish, elegant and soft. Good wine, very soft. Drink soon. 5-11-15-7: 88/100.

November 3, 1990 - With MPL, Halina, Elva, and MPL's Chinese woman friend from Miami and her beau at S&F. Black cherry color. Good nose; racy, lovely, delightful. Great flavor. Round, ripe. Fine. 5-11-16-7: 89/100.

September 29, 1990 - With MPL at S&F survey of new Californians. Nice cranberry color. Beautiful rose nose. Flowery. Haunting. Beautiful wine on the palate. Unfolds beautifully to reveal multiple layers of fruit. Silky and so elegant. Stunning. The best American Pinot I've ever had, better than the '86 Mondavi Reserve. Maybe. 5-13-19-9: 96/100.
