June 19, 2014 - A number of years ago, unfamiliar with nebbiolo, we layed in a case of Uvaggio's Il Lupo. As we moved through the posted drinking window, we were disappointed. But then I lost track of the bottles. I have a cramped space where I store far too many wines. To keep the "drink now" wines up front, and the ones with age potential in the back (and away from my eager grips), I have to annually reorganize the wine, gently trying to avoid any agitation. Somehow, the Il Lupo found its way into a hard-to-reach cranny. I finally came across the missing bottles, which we were eager to empty since it was already three years beyond their recommended years. But those years are just someone's opinion when the wine is still young. A bad opinion in this case, for now the wine has become succulent and complex with a long, flavorful finish. It brings tears to my eyes as I pour out the last glass.

May 15, 2013 - Very nice nose of cherry, strawberry, tar, licorice, cedar and something floral. Tart cherry on the palate with some tobacco and leather on the finish. Very refreshing acidity and slightly bitter tannins. I'm in no hurry to drink the remaining bottles; I think they'll hold for a few more years

November 30, 2012 - Not bad for an affordable blend of Barbera & Nebbiolo. I'm not sure how to describe it. It's kinda like a Zinfandel, but not as bold. I drank my first bottle with lunch of tomatoes and crackers, but I think this wine would go better with strong red meat. Or maybe a tomato sauce based pizza and/or pasta. Update, woke up in morning after drinking this wine with killer headache. So watch out if you are prone to red wine headaches like me.

June 4, 2012 - Ok but certainly not the best Cali version of this.

Not impressive but ok for gluggers at party's end.

April 4, 2012 - What a difference a year of cellaring made to this wine! Very tasty, savored in the afternoon with just a bit of brie on toasted slices from a Tuscan loaf.
