Community Tasting Notes 4

August 30, 2018 - Nose seems more integrated than the actual wine at first pop. Plenty on minerality on the nose featuring smokey rocks, leather, slight green notes but not distracting. Lots of tart red fruit . Mild bricking along the edges with a semi concentrated core.

With air, the structure of the wine develops into a medium to medium+ finish. Tannins also start to show themselves but pretty well integrated.

Probably best in 3-5 years but not sure if it is worth the wait as I don’t know how much better it will get. Plenty of life left though!

Verdict: drinkable and pretty delicious given the cheap price point I picked it up for!

August 2, 2015 - Second Sunday Group: 2002 Napa Cabernets (Our house): There are no such things as great wines- only great bottles. This was a great bottle. Aromas of iron, red and white currants, Lily of the Valley, wild phlox, forest floor and red berry fruit. I could have smelled this all night and been perfectly happy. Balanced and elegant on the palate, with softened acidity and flavors of red fruit, macerated cherry, mushroom, iron, mineral and lavender. Long, lingering finish. Superb.

March 8, 2014 - Over a lovely lamb shoulder at W's. Medium red, with a slight hint of orange. On the nose, we all guessed incorrectly. This was earthy, spicy and minerally with some acids. I was thinking NSG but I was surprised it was a Bonnes Mares. On the palate, there was good structure, very earthy and more stewed rather than fresh fruits. It went decently well with the lamb. An enjoyable wine.

March 10, 2013 - Sunday Brown Bag Tasting: 2000 Grand Cru Red Burgundy (Rich & Dana's): Faded garnet color. Aromas of cigar box, forest floor, cherry, currants and florals. Develops clay and dark fruit notes. Balanced, with good acidity and flavors of dark fruit, forest floor and pine needles. 89-90 pts.

    My #5, Domino's #4
    Group #3, 49 pts
