Community Tasting Notes 27

May 17, 2021 - Earthy nose of dark leathery fruits, rather dark in colour, good looking while you swirling the wine glass! Juicy palate with fine acidity, slightly earthy taste, echoing the nose nicely, a little tight and harsh at this point! Solid wine in my humble opinion!

December 15, 2018 - Haut-Medoc lunch (Bel & Brio, Barangaroo, Sydney): The appearance is clear and deep ruby in colour. Tears are visible.

The nose is unclean. The aromas have a medium(-) intensity with notes of herbaceous characters (spearmint), TCA (subtle damp cardboard), black fruit (very subtle blackberry). The wine is faulty.

On the palate, the wine is dry with medium(+) acidity, medium alcohol, and medium(+) body. The medium(+) level tannins are ripe and chalky in nature. The flavours have a medium(-) intensity and show notes of bottle-age (meaty character), herbaceous characters (spearmint, green capsicum), black fruit (very subtle blackberry), and TCA (subtle wet cardboard).

This wine is faulty. The taint, while at a low level, subdues the primary fruit causing the wine to appear more savoury. The acidity and the tannins were in great balance though.

December 15, 2018 - Haut Medoc Birthday lunch (Bel & Brio, Barangaroo): slightly corked. Leather, earthy, muted, slightly sharp, black fruits. Massive tannins, cherry, crushed rock, black fruits more brambles than blackcurrant. Pity about that taint which grows in the glass, sucking the enjoyment from what could have been a lovely wine, I'm sure. FLAW.

November 14, 2018 - Coravin fun - Medoc check-in continues and ring in (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Savoury, woody, herbaceous, brambles, dry toast, sweet spice, almost a pot pourri note. In the mouth there is still plenty of tannin but the dark, dense, slightly brooding fruit, still travels long backed by cedar and a little baked earth. Yum.

July 13, 2018 - This bottle was really nice. Had others that showed tired. Not this one. Smooth but firm balance. Fruit was still there and the tannins soft
Drink tomorrow night if you got them
