July 2, 2016 - Mixed bag. Quite bretty. Probably too much. Soulful wine underneath though. Brett lessens with air but by then the wine is fading too.

May 30, 2015 - This bottle was much better than my memory and notes of the previous bottle about 9 months ago. There I noted crisp acidity but here the acidity though not at all shy seems much better integrated. Deep quite pristine red. Expressive nose of fragrant plum with leather and mineral touches. Medium/full bodied well integrated palate with more graciousness of fruit than usual in Bouscassé, still very fresh but developing complexity with more minerals and leather, a firm but well covered tannic backbone and decent length. Plenty more life ahead of it. Very good now.

September 2, 2014 - About two years ago, I wrote the following about the basic Bouscassé '97 bottling. "This is a robust wine with deep colour, savoury plum like fruit, wet leather touches, full body, lively acidity with mineral touches, firm but ripe tannic structure and a tad more charm than in many vintages softening its classily rustic austerity". The only changes I would make for this VV bottle would be erase the reference to softening of the usual austerity and increase the description to acidity from "lively" to "very crisp". Nevertheless I continue to be a fan of Madiran, admire this wine's unsophisticated distinction and think that it may benefit from a little more age. Good+.

April 22, 2013 - Granato cupo, ancora qualche lampo rubino.
