Community Tasting Notes 5

December 26, 2013 - Good, but expected better. Whereas other 2007 PNs from the Willamette Valley are continuing to evolve, this one seemed already past its prime. Acid and tanins were way off; wine was trending towards a bit fruity and flabby. Black cherries and raspberries on the palate, but lacking the usual WV mineral backbone and forest floor nose. Short finish.

August 6, 2012 - This wine got better over the 4 hours it was open. After it had some time to breathe (1-2 hrs), it was a combo of dark cherries, ripe strawberries, and spicebox or cedar. Spice notes fade/integrate with time and the fruit gets sweeter and purer but without any sense of sugar. Good mouthfeel. Long, fruit-dominated finish. Though there's interesting fruit, I don't know that there's enough structure for this to age extensively. Nice wine that became more elegant as it opened up.

January 20, 2011 - 2007 Shea Vineyard Tasting (Willamette Wine Storage - Portland, OR): The nose here is an interesting combination of oak wood and bark suggesting a darker side, and bright cherries, speaking to fresh character. The cherries are clean and bright on the palate and accompanied by full and balanced vanilla oak. Everything is clean and balanced, and a bright feel persists through the experience. Everything lingers well and a white floral note shows itself toward the finish. Yum!

January 20, 2011 - 2007 Shea vineyard comparative tasting (Willamette Wine Storage - Portland, OR): Light sulfur nose, showing burned wood, some barnyard/poopy notes, and nice cherries. The palate shows pleasing red Pinot fruit, the tannins and acidity are on the light side. The fruit here is fresh and up-front. This is pleasing and easy to drink. It's not compelling or complex, but very easy and it gets respect in that sense. Medium-short finish that ends cleanly.

August 24, 2010 - Expressive nose of spice box, damp earth, violets, black cherry and black raspberry. Nice sweet fruit on the palate with moderate fine grained tannin and lively acidity.
