October 7, 2019 - A single-vineyard Dolcetto with the fruit sourced from Santo Stefano di Perno in Monforte d'Alba. Fermented and aged in stainless steel. 14% alcohol.

Somewhat hazy dark ruby color with quite pale rim. Quite developed and meaty nose with savory aromas of smoke, some wizened dark berries and a little bit of sweet, lifted VA. The wine is ripe, moderately full-bodied and relatively aged on the palate with flavors of raisins, some developed syrupy tones, a little bit of sweet pruney fruit, light peppery spice and a hint of juicy dark berries. The wine is quite hot with rather gentle acidity and moderately grippy medium tannins. The finish is hot, robust and quite tannic with long flavors of raisins, some sour cherry bitterness, a little bit of pruney fruit, a hint of brambly blackberry and a touch of soy sauce.

A tired and somewhat unbalanced Dolcetto from the hot 2009 vintage that seems to be quite past its prime with too little acidity and too much alcohol. Not really in pieces yet, but not showing its best anymore either. And based on its structure and balance, I'd say that this wine has never been particularly balanced.

January 26, 2016 - v pretty sweet fruit, bit of dark fruitcake showing the age - probably not what it was made for but very nice. good bitter fruit finish

April 22, 2015 - Drinking beautifully. Soft, round, fruity, long. Excellent wine.

June 16, 2014 - Tasty prototypical Dolcetto. Spicy strawberry / cherry with that slightly bitter Dolcetto finish. Bright acidity and a mid weight frame keeps this vigorously fresh. Fun way to experience a little bit the Giuseppe Mascarello pedigree and brilliance. Paid $18 and very worth it! May need to grab some more of this.

October 1, 2013 - Probably one of the best dolcettos I had so far. A striking bouquet of very fresh plums, herbs and almost apricots. The wine is quite fullbodied and the allready mentioned similarity to grenache makes sense on the palate. Given the acidity and tannins left, this dolcetto is capable of aging for quite some time.
Overall amazing PQR for this famous producer bought for less than 10 € cellar door.
