May 10, 2024 - This was quite the surprise. Reading all the reviews I was expecting an unbalanced, hot, syrupy mess….was I wrong! It’s a big boy for sure and you can definitely feel the alcohol, but it is very much in balance. Opulent nose of cinnamon, vanilla and plum. Velvety mouth feel with still persistent tannins and some acidity.

May 4, 2009 - I will give this the benefit of the doubt by not rating it on the assumption that it was past its prime, but this was cherry cough syrup with a finish of paint thinner. Horrible. I have a few Napa cabs of the same vintage that I now expect will be similarly overextracted.

November 28, 2008 - Eccentric wine. Very hot, port-like. Etoh dominates. Raisiny fruit. Would be very difficult to identify this wine as merlot if tasted blind.

December 17, 2006 - ($42) Interesting nose. Chocolate. High toned alcohol. Berry. Creamy in smell. Suppose you might call it berries and cream topped with a liqueur-based sauce?

July 2, 2006 - We had this wine last evening with my barbequed pork tenderloins. It was perfect. This wine is a huge, meaty blockbuster. No wimpy merlot to be had here. The color is dark and opulent with hues of inky ,reddish purple. The nose explodes with scents of chocolate mixed with black and blue berries. The taste is opulent and expresses flavors of ripe black cherries, kirsch, blackberries, chocolate and port.
