Community Tasting Notes 8

October 19, 2013 - The nose is decent, but the palate seems very one dimensional and fading. And Grayfont is right, this starts to go fast once it gets some air.

Cherry, leaves, hints of baking spice, mushroom, slight tomato? (one of the first wines I've really noticed this in), and maybe starting to show a touch of vinegar after the 5 hours this has been open.

Drink this up, definitely over the hill and will only fade further from here.

March 14, 2013 - Still loving this, and still magical on the nose. Mushroom notes becoming more prominent on the palate. While still tremendous, this bottle is not showing quite as well as prior bottles over the past few years; no clue if this is due to bottle variation or the start of the wine's (amazingly delayed) decline. I wasn't planning to hold these much longer anyway - I'm moving my "drink by" date to 12/31/2013 with aim to check my last bottle at Thanksgiving of this year.

May 12, 2012 - Blind home wine tasting with MOT Scoring sheet (At home in the cellar): My score is low from the scoring - I would have given it an 89 unscored. Brown brick edge showing from age with a light delicate violet nose. An interesting dry sandiness in the finish.

May 12, 2012 - Blind Tasting & Dinner @ the Ballingtons' (Great Falls, VA): Tasted non-blind. Consistent with prior showings, this was floral, pretty, and vibrant. Long finish. Unfortunately, it's a bit fragile - - quite beautiful soon after pouring, but an hour later all the fruit was gone. Recommend pop-and-pour on this wine and keep it away from air.

March 18, 2012 - wow! for $70 this was truly amazing. all the rich terroir stuff going on and this streak of vibrant acidity that paired it well with the entire meal. decanted 3 hours which i think helped a lot. cant wait to get my hands on more of this. shows like it could sit another 20 years in bottle like it's nothing. cant wait to try some other vintages!
