March 12, 2012 - Beautiful riesling. Love this wine. It has an elegant, well-integrated profile that just keeps getting better. Peach, lemon, a hint of petrol (in a good way); full, rich mouthfeel with a burst of fruit on the palate. Simply lovely.

December 27, 2011 - Beautiful nose - very floral and fruity. Really pretty - sweet grapefruit and white raisins. Juicy and quite racy on the nose. Reminds me of some of the KR wines I had years ago from the 1996 vintage as I just got into German wine. Again, very lively and racy on the palate. Bright sweet citrus - grapefruit, tropical, white grapes and raisins, some pineapple. Nice acid and minerals. Showing similar racy and bracing acidity to the 2010 Merkelbach, but with even juicer fruit aspects. This really hits my pleasure centers. Nose - 5/6, Palate - 5/6, Finish - 5.5/6, Je Ne Sais Quoi - 1.5/2 = 17/20.

June 21, 2011 - Theise/Skurnik DI tasting. Softer and a bit creamier than the Kabinett and preceding Spatlese; there's some overt botrytis here and lots of sweetness (Stefan said about 50% of the fruit here was botrytised). A step down from the great 09.

(Kruger-Rumpf Binger Scharlachberg Riesling Spätlese) ($26.00) Only 400 liters (about 42 cases) were made. Nearly 100°, a sponti, whole-cluster pressed; a rapturously flowery aroma, with another hint of grass; on the palate a surprising whomp of stern power on the back; the fruit is green again but there’s an orchid-y kelpy kick of yuzu below the giddy floral high notes. Not an easy wine, but it’s one of those your mouth isn’t quite big enough for.
